45 seconds in (should be queued up). Is that a guitar backing track? Nobody seems to be playing but I hear a guitar.

looks like it's clearly Billy? Actually, I'm not too sure now that I look at it again.

its the guitar/vox/whatever effect from the album on the backing track. you can hear BC's guitar stop then start back up

I initially thought it was super lame, but you know, the more I think about it, It's actually not the worst idea.

They could have hired one of Linda Strawberry's actor friends to play the role as the curator but having McGrath adds a bit of a surprise factor for the concert goers as anyone who listened to the Smashing Pumpkins in their prime was well aware of Sugar Ray

Sorry, I must have missed something... what the fuck does Marc McGrath have to do with anything? Is he in one of Linda's videos they show during the show?

Also, the last time I saw McGrath, he had so much obvious plastic surgery he looked like a CGI character.

He stars in a few video segments during the show. I guess he's acting as a curator. It's a bit odd!

Check out him introducing James Iha in this clip here

I'm surprised anyone even recognised him. I didn't, and I still can't tell it's him comparing pictures of him. Is he even that much in the public consciousness anymore?

mark mcgrath does the jazz hands thing when he says james iha's name, and in jazz circles that particular gesture is seen as racist. reflection of the whole minstrel thing.. good going, pumpkins!

I've never seen anyone being offended by jazz hands.

P.S.:

I'm glad I'm not familiar with that Beach Boys song. To think, it was released two weeks after this:

Ohhh, the "Every Morning" band. Had to look that up as they were pretty much one hit wonders over here. I guess 1999 passes for "current" and "relevant" in Billy's eyes.

doubt the decision had much to do with McGrath's musical output in recent years, he was on Trump's tv show The Apprentice, and earlier this year on Big Brother. good match for... you know.

Sugar Ray are a perfect example of what went wrong with "alternative" rock.

Yeah over here they were only known for that one song. One top 10 UK single, and none of their albums went top 40.

sugar ray is the ultimate sellout band. they were really heavy and then had the hit with "Fly" and then all of their songs became like that song. not that i blame them for it, money is a big motivator. they had some more hits here - every morning, someday, and when it's over

Better view of the opening video. Some really cool nods to previous artwork

Yeah, they really were sellouts. But to be fair, they really didn't work as a rock band. McGrath just comes off too douchey. Though I do recall liking that song RPM. That one wasn't bad.
