A major contributing factor for me is constant battles with recognizing/managing my own emotions. When im particularly stressed out (filled with unexpressed emotions as well as shame for having the emotions and not being STRONGER), i tend to imagine im the center of a world of clairvoyants, each of whom know exactly the effect their subtle interactions are having upon me

Hence checkout lady who frowns at me knows what a horrible person i am and wants to make her displeasure known vs has a headache from working too hard at her shitty job; friend who hasn’t replied to my calls/texts has realized im not worth knowing and has finally decided to take action vs is very busy with pressing family/work business; person tailgating on my commute is intentionally trying to push me over the edge vs has to take a dump and racing to get home before soiling the seat

i think the point is to remind yourself it's not all about you, and that you need to actively disengage those anxiety-related thought patterns and try to replace them with sympathy.

i just had kind of an obvious Eureka moment the other day about that. i was wearing a face mask because the air pollution here has been fucking obnoxious all week. i was buying something at a convenience store, and the clerk was guarded and apathetic. usually i attribute this to my own feelings of awkwardness and being unsuccessful at socializing, the way i look & the things i hate about myself, whatever. but because of the mask i was basically rendered anonymous and without any identity, a floating pair of eyes. it made me realize i may be extracting much more out of the way people respond to me, than what really is there.

should have just left it at 'soiling the seat'.

vixnix i will spend a couple of months in europe visiting relatives then a month and a half in jerusalem clearing my dad's students' dorm rooms.

after that back to orlando to go back to school until december. by then i will decide if i go teach in chad or keep studying in the us.

it's not exactly clear. my mom said that she met her current husband before he got divorced and that church members looked on their marriage as her stealing him from his wife. my cousin is 14 years younger than him. she's penniless, he's loaded.

my cousin told me that it was because he remarried after divorce. but i don't think the church has doctrine against that.

i think the gossip my mom shared with me might have some truth to it but that in fact it was mainly church politics. her husband was an elder for 20 years and clashed with some of the senior members. they must have used his divorce and remarriage as an excuse to kick him out. it's pretty ugly and disgusting. the more i am around adventists the clearer it is to me that there is no going back to that farce.

Just write. Its good you think your own work is awful. I'm sure it is. All writing is fucking awful, come to think of it. Writers should all kill themselves
