Conspiracy Theory: Are Frodo and Sam really gay?

I've been having this debate with my friend (and LOTR connoisseur extraordinaire) for awhile now. Personally I think that the love story between Frodo and Sam was a lot more comprehensive (and hot and sweaty) than anything between Aragorn and elf chick, at least in the movies. If they were any more gay then Ron Jeremy and other famous greasy pornstars would've been lining up for the role back during casting.

Unfortunately, I can't find my copy of the book, and therefore can't back up my arguments with any concrete evidence. So post your thoughts on the subject (unless you think they're NOT gay, in which case you're useless to me). In fact, might as well throw in a poll while I'm at it.

Well I think JRR's official stance (by word of his son) is that they are NOT gay, but it could be argued pretty well. There's a lot more kissing and shit in the books. Sam is the lonely fat queer kid, and frodo is like the bi-sexual sexfiend who keeps coming back because he can't help himself.

You all should read the books, it's in there, especially in the 2nd and 3rd ones.

I finally managed to dig up my copy - here's some evidence taken from the book itself.

- 'At that moment, there was a knock on the door and Sam came in. He ran to Frodo and took his left hand, awkwardly and shyly. He stroked it gently, and then he blushed, and turned hastily away' (Book 2, Many Meetings)

- 'He shook his head, as if finding words useless, and murmured, "I love him. He's like that, and sometimes it shines through, somehow. But I love him, whether or no' (Book 4, Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit)

- ' Very gently he undid the clasp at the neck and slipped his hand inside Frodo's tunic; then with his other hand raising the head, he kissed the cold forehead' (Book 4, The Choices of Master Samwise)

Furthermore, Frodo, and especially Sam, seem pretty pissed when Gollum shows up, effectively putting an end to their privacy and raining on their little two-man gay parade - fortunately for them, they manage turn it into an excuse to act out their kinky fantasies and put gollum on a chainlink leash.

There you have it, ladies.

It's all about the Legolas and Aragorn, baby. Especially in the most recent movie. My god the flirting! I don't think it's in the books so much, but Peter Jackson clearly thinks that Legolas wants to get into Aragorn's pants.

But um, yeah...I think it's generally accepted by quite a few people (as opposed to just pervy slashers *ahem*) that Sam's in love with Frodo. (Good thing Ariel's not here to see me say that.) If I recall correctly, Elijah wood and the guy who plays Frodo have said something to the effect of, "Well, we know a lot of people think they're gay, and we're not exactly denying it..." And they kinda play that up in the films, especially toward the end of the last one.

So yes, I agree with you. Feel vindicated. Now I will go do Astronomy homework, yes...
