I don't understand why. It's mainly repetative and ininspired animation, where every character looks not only like every other character in the cartoon, but also like every character in every other anime cartoon.

Lot of anime are Japanese.
The nonJapanese anime don't make any sense because they are following the tradition of the Japanime.

Whatever. I like it.

its one of the most striking visual cartoons when you come down to it. Compare a Disney flick to something like "Ghost in the Shell". Anime is a, like, 900% better looking than your standard American cartoons, once you get a handle on its style.

Nearly every anime cartoon looks the same.

k, I've been boozin so I can't get into a long explaination cuz I don't have the energy and I killed a few brain cells -- but yeah, its a very diverse style and the detail on the characters is friggin great when you compare it to the basic drawings of American animation.

Rent The Animatrix and there's this great documentary on how Anime style originated, its a really good crash course in it.

yeah.. anime isn't very accessible.

The japanese often take the same approach to anime that they do with videogames; which is to make them as elaborate, distinctive and creative as possible.. so even though there is a diverse range of anime, it's all still pretty flamboyant. They often cater for an audience that enjoys violence, weird creatures and ‘cute’ characters.

Anime excels in the fantasy genre because the writers and designers have so much freedom and creativity.. They’re very good at creating intricate fictitious worlds. So if you like stuff like that then anime is ideal.
So even though you can find many of the same elements that you see in regular movies (comedy, romance and drama), it’s still an acquired taste that isn’t for everybody.

That being said, I can only watch one maybe two anime flicks a year cuz it does have a tendency to get pretty old rather quickly. But if you take it in bite-sized chunks once in awhile, its really original and a distinctive style.
