I can already feel it, musically... |

His voice sounded tired and this is a pretty drone-y song anyway. I think the strings were the wrong accompaniment, live. Just added to the whining, samey kind of tone.
Not keen on the motif played by the strings, either. One of my favourite performances on Jimmy Fallon is Joanna Newsom playing Soft as Chalk. I think Billy could borrow a lot from this performance. Piano is a second instrument to her as well, but she's been more intentional in adapting to it. She is careful to play softer to allow room for her voice when she needs to, rather than playing the piano at the same volume and then having to strain her voice to make herself heard over the top. She also creates a good deal of variation with tempo and mood even though it's just her at the piano. WPC's performance is a bit flat, a bit samey. The piano lacks variation unless the arrangement and technical ability of the player are able to create it. Without that, he really has to bring something special to the audience, which he can't do if he's just trying to power through it. The Berlin performance was better. And it's not a good lead single. Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes |

comparing billy to Joanna Newsom isn't fair. Billy's gonna lose everytime. old geezer is a hummer with guitar chops (that were tight 20 years ago) vs someone with researched and developed classical chops.
what I find awesome about joanna is how her quirky singing voice is totally put on - her talking voice is 100% normal. she don't give a shit. |

it's amazing how many of those comments are disgruntled TNA fans, lol
also, the one girl who said "Corgan's voice hasn't changed. It still moves me. I love that man." made me realize how different the casual perception of this dude is compared to over here where we're all dissecting the vibratos & dropped consonants and seeing the clear difference between Billy now and Bill from like 1999 |

bingo. The casual view is still the dominant one. You can critique what he's done since the SP heyday, but it ought not take away what was established, which is what the general public will always remember. |

Aeronaut is the best song on the album - a good choice to play on Fallon. I was listening to this in my car today and got a little emotional which is unusual for me. I am just really happy that Corgan can still produce something of this quality. Feeling nostalgic... I haven't been on this board in 9 years and this album brought me back.
