Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. Built sometime between the 6th and 10th centuries although it has been added on to repeatedly to reach its current height of 350 feet. It is covered in real gold plates and the very top is bedazzled with an insane amount of precious gems. The entire compound is ridiculously impressive, and you can't even see most of it from this photo. My friend described it as "Buddhist Disney World"

Did you see any ruined shit in the jungles? Did you ride an elephant? How were the mangos? Did you get high?

God now I want to go to South Asia instead of Comoros.

I saw a lot of jungles and lots of ruined shit. It's hard to tell how old shit is though.

Did not ride an elephant because it's immoral. My friend who I traveled with was teaching in Asia though, and her school made all the foreign teachers ride elephants for a photo op. She said it was super uncomfortable because she knew it was wrong but they were really pushy and she had just gotten there and didn't know what to do :/

The mangoes were otherworldly as were the coconuts.

I got high only in Chiang Mai. A New Zealander at our hostel was checking out and he gave me his weed which he referred to as "Scambodian Dirt." It was in fact like a brown brick of marijuana matter but we did get high off it.

i was there during my first visit to china in 2008. it really is beautiful and arresting. i probably didn't properly appreciate it then because i was a dumb kid.

it seems like the tourism in china got much more massive since then though, and going to pretty much any popular tourist destination these days will probably be a much more crowded and frustrating experience. if there's one thing i hate is standing in line to be impressed. it just kills the whole thing for me.

don't know what to answer to people who say religion is fake in this context. it is not make-believe. it's the biggest cultural driver of history.

i was saying that disney world could replicate such architecture but it would all be fake. whereas here you have the real thing, massive buildings centuries old made with real materials, real gold and real gems, for actual purposes other than tourism.

Sounds about right. So sad. I don't know where we'll go in October. I hate crowds.

My mom dumpster dives and saved these components and now they're being pretty in the backyard. In the front earlier in th season I put some plants in some planters for them and this coincidently goes well with the ones I picked. I'm a plant snob and seek out certain varieties (drive a distance, pay more). We're different people and it's not a bad thing. Freeganism is cool to me 👍🏽

We have a persimmon tree near a dumpster we've both foraged. Otherwise they end up on the ground... a Japanese persimmon in NJ isn't supposed to be possible so it's a cool oddity
