to be frank, to manage the environment equitably we might have to take steps "backwards" in terms of comfort, security & ease of living

its bad

don't assume that i refer to myself as marxist or something means i have nothing but reverence for every word he wrote, i don't even remember most of it

what i believe in is
  • social & labor control of the means of production (aka marxism, communism, socialism, idk whatever)
  • egalitarianism (again, same. this is a value in opposition to liberalism. they want to claim it but liberalism & capitalism rest upon heirarchies of "merit")
  • environmental consideration, protection & management
  • managed economy viz a viz the environmental impact
  • central planning
  • local/city-state government
  • star fleet

the fact that they're still trying to figure out how to make money at managing the environment is why we're doomed

maybe after the mass die-off, a smaller population can lead better lives on a less strained planet. systems seek balance etc etc kind of like how the plague killed off a ton of people and then there were more resources to go around and societies rose economically and that gave birth to the beginnings of capitalism and then it will be a new era with a new struggle

yea this is another reason i don't like the "arc of history" narrative, it skips talking about the cratering after the broze age collapse, the fall of rome, the black death, it just assumes its like one grand slam after another and its like no there's still plenty of awful to go around my friends so what is "better" as a term to use when you're talking about the holocaust compared to the massacre of verden? i just think we're fundamentally inhumane to each other at every stage of development and trying to quantify it is only an attempt to apologize for man's inhumanity to man

this is very true. History is a cycle of collapses and rebirths. I don't see it as a teleological arc, more like a complicated series of reactions.

Marx was also into THE ARC OF HISTORY but ofc he saw it as a dialectic, not a linear path

trump campaigned on how fantastic torture was & his base & republicans loved it

holy shit man that is definitely not what he said. the whole argument turned into cussing each other out but at that point i can kind of understand what he tried to say. you sometimes get visibly angry in your posts. it is shining through you've invested emotionally in your beliefs.

he's not saying there is anything wrong with that and neither do i. so i don't see the disrespect in that. i get fucking angry when i read some stuff but also try to understand people are not personally attacking you when talking about a subject that is related to you in some way.

i'm just talking about the start of this conversation, i would like to stay out of everything that followed.

We might be moving to Singapore. I dunno. The background checks still haven't finished. If they clear, our flights are already booked for the 24th April, but I figure the bank that's in the process of hiring my husband can cancel stuff like that pretty easily so it still doesn't mean very much.

I just don't know what to think anymore. It's hard to imagine having less than a month to pack up our entire house and say goodbye and then begin living in another country.

But then, maybe nothing will happen and we'll just stay here.

Kinda stressed out right now.

I guess that isn't wrong, but wanting for things to be better for future humans shows empathy and foresight. Also pretty tired of "natural selection" at work. That's something said by those that understand little about evolution.

I think humans forget they live on one planet because of the inherent apathy of the planet and little understanding of what it took for us to be where we are now. We have our history as humans but that's rarely overlapped with the history of the earth.

I mean the earth as a whole is alive at this point. Life is everywhere. We just don't always consider it meaningful. I only half relish with the thought of archaea being the dominant organism on the earth once again. Mostly I am horrified haha and don't wanna have children because of fear of them blaming me for having them despite knowing their lives won't be as comfortable as mine
