I personally have no problem with eating animals. I was a vegetarian for 11 years and used every stupid argument to justify it and make other people feel guilty. The truth is there is no difference between eating a pig, cow or bird. They're all sentient beings. Arguing about which is OK to eat is an absurd exercise. It is just rationalization.

people are omnivores and our species wouldn't exist had our ancestors not started eating meat millions of years ago. The evolution of our large thinking brains required meat.

The truth is that if you want 7-10 billion people to live on this planet you are going to have to have massive factory farming. Free range grass fed organic happy animals are a luxury for the rich. 99% of the people on this planet can't afford to eat their morals.

Our problem with our environment, global warming, factory farming, etc. is all tied to over population. You want less of all this bad shit? You want your grand children to live and not see an environmental holocaust? Stop having so many goddamn kids. You breeders are literally killing the planet.

There is a theory that meat consumption helped us evolve bigger, better brains, but humans living in societies which are still tribal and largely isolated tend to eat very little meat. The amount of meat we consume in the West is insanely over the top for what our bodies are built to consume.

if you believe all animals are equally morally bad to kill despite their intelligence and ability to experience complex, psychological pain, then there is essentially no difference between killing a fish or a shrimp and killing a human, and that is not correct to me. The only other way around this moral snag as I see it is to believe humans are unique and separate from all other animals, and I reject that entirely. I think a hierarchical system based on intelligence is not perfect, but makes more sense than saying killing any living thing is equally wrong. What about coral? Sea sponges? When you get down to it, there is no biological division between animals and other forms of life... those lines are arbitrations we came up with. What about trees and grass? Plants probably experience some version of shock, pain, and trauma even if it's different than that of complex animals.
