If Zodiac had more moments as tense as the basement scene, i'd get behind it. I felt it was overly long and plodding.

yeah Zodiac is definitely plodding and takes a very long time to get rolling.
but that scene where Gyllenhaal goes over to the hardware store and looks him in the eye, and that ring just goes off - that's one of the most powerful moments i can recall, and has stayed with me forever.

Wolves in the Throne Room were always a little too cheesy to my ears.

I'd be willing to bet that you'd enjoy the mountainous black metal delights of the aforementioned genre-benders, in any case.

P.S. I still can't figure out which song it was that sampled the Bride of the Monster speech from Ed Wood, which you had recently posted. It keeps me up at night.

Oh and I also collect Archie Digests.

And that just goes to refute what Globes was saying about collecting being a symptom of spending money when being depressed.

Collecting CD's/VHS/Cassette Tapes/Trading Cards/Archie Digests/Old Toys are all collections that you can amass by spending very, very little. And that inherently is one of the large reasons why partaking in a hobby can be so enjoyable

Regardless of money spent, you're filling a void by accumulating useless ephemera. A sign of unhappiness/unfulfillment to be sure.

Also, last night's convo re: Fincher inspired me to pop in the Blu-Ray of Fight Club. Fell asleep half-way through, woke up just at the end (right when Pixies came in). Still love the film like a teenager, even if I know every single line and beat by heart at this point.

But Zodiac's still the better film.

i don't know that i actively collect anything. too much stuff makes me feel weird.

i have a decent-sized, double-sided bookshelf full of books and i have a pretty nice-sized wardrobe and i have a lot of rigidly-organized mp3's and movies on a hard drive; but besides those things, i don't have a lot of stuff.

add my plastic tub of random journals/clippings/memories/loose little things, and i'm set pretty okay. could fit it all in my car and that pleases me pretty well.

tbh i have a lot of old stuff i kept back in Israel. i don't know if they could really be regarded as 'collections' but i had lots of shit. moving to China has been interesting in that regard, because i basically resetted everything. i have nothing now except for some clothes, an acoustic guitar, and my laptop. it's a bit strange not really 'owning' anything, but it's also very liberating to be unweighted. the only thing i really truly miss is my guitars/studio gear, and my cat.

back home i have a record collection, dvd's and movies, maybe even some VHS's. some books. boxes and boxes of old paintings i made, stuff i wrote, etc etc.

if i lived in japan i would probably become a hardcore collector, they have so much cool fucking shit over there. large, hyper detailed 'action figures' (though collectors would vehemently refrain from calling them that), 80's-90's video game consoles, games and memorabillia, just generally tons of cool pop culture shit that appealed very strongly to the huge geek inside me.

It's not Japan but that's what our apartment is. Or what Mike's stuff is. My stuff is more boring.

You weren't tempted to bring any of that shit back to your digs when you visited?

I don't think I would have been able to resist.

haha, i did buy some stuff, but i tried to keep it to small, cheap stuff as to not spend too much money. i got a simpsons hand towel, TMNT socks, and the most whimsical of all - a Yoshi stuffy, that now sits proudly on my desk

(i don't need to explain that Yoshi is mario's dragon, everybody here knows that right?)

i aalllllllmost bought a supercool Terminator action figure, arnie from the first movie. i got some photos of all that stuff, can post some if anybody cares.
