I wish everything didn't have milk except raw milk cheese that comes from small farms that keep happy cows. Plant based milk is so much better for everyone

If I saw those at the grocery store, I would probably assume they were akin to those frozen dog treats you can buy.

Ayo, Emma. How would you like to provide some free advice?
I've somehow found myself in the position of would-be tour guide to a group of visitors to Sydney on a four-day stint in the middle of February. Feel free to lay out a play-by-play with which I can run the entire trip. Thank you. |

I saw a family of 4 gathered at a table in a starbucks-within-a-target eating from individual pints of ben and jerries. I know the product was on sale because also bought it. It's just good economical sense. It costs at least the same if not more individually at an ice cream parlor and it costs more pound for pound

I believe there'll be two four-year-olds, two in their mid-to-late teens, and several fully-grown humans ranging from twenty-somethings to the moribund. Staying in the CBD.

Okay, then:
Mid Feb., school is back, weekdays are good for the tourist stuff. 1. Ferry to Taronga zoo/animal jail, take Sky Safari to the top of the zoo, and walk your way down the hill, take the ferry back to Circular Quay. - strollers/wheelchairs are available at the top entrance - it's a lot of walking. Otherwise, take your own, it's all accessible. - go EARLY. Zoo opens at 9:30am, take a ferry sailing that will get you there early, and take a couple of bottles of bubble solution with a wand in the lid, to blow bubbles for the four year olds while they wait, something like that. The zoo is huge and there is enough there for a whole day. Lovely views of the city and harbour from inside. Better to be early and at the front of the queue, then you can leave earlier and beat the queue for the ferry at the other end of the day. Bird Show and Seal Show will probably entertain everyone, I still love both. There can be lines for the Seal show, so it can pay to have someone (probably you) keep a place in the line, while the others look at nearby exhibits - gorillas, elephants, monkeys. Four year olds should take water-wear or a change of clothes if it is hot - there are two good water play areas that are irresistible to young children on a hot day. 2. Darling Harbour Take the ferry from Circular Quay or take a taxi. Buy one of those tacky all-attractions passes, that get you into the Darling Harbour animal jails (wildlife + aquarium). If the four year olds tire of the animal jails, there is a good playground nearby, but it's a good walk away - there is a chocolate cafe and McDonald's next to the playground though, that might lure them there. Playground has water/sand play so bring spare clothes. 3. Powerhouse Museum Walk from Central Station or get a taxi from the hotel. Kids playground has climbing stuff, the museum interior has interesting engineering stuff, stupid boring arty stuff, and tacky screen oriented kids stuff. Something for everyone. Bonus - cafe is half decent with nice seating, particularly on a weekday during school terms, and the gift shop is alright, too - a reasonable collection of gimmicks and some nice Australian stuff. 4. Manly Take the ferry from Circular Quay. The Manly terminal has some food options and if the moribund and four year olds can't walk much further you can stop at Little Manly beach where there are swimming nets and a good bit of sand to play with. The moribund can sit above at street level under the Norfolk Pines unless it's raining. Manly aquarium is adjacent if you want to get your money's worth out of the multiple attractions passes. Same stuff as the aquarium with a hideous lunchtime show about spiders and snakes. A range of lunch options, cheap sand toys, ugly made in China souvenirs, gelato, hipster cafes, hippies, surfers drug addicts, free filtered drinking water for bottle refills, all available at the Corso, across the road from the ferry terminal - there is a playground for the kids, and Manly Beach proper (surf side) is on the other side. 5. Botanic Gardens. Interesting plants live here, which appeal to the more cultivated family (LOLOLOL). Can get decent ice-cream at the cafe. Lovely picnic spots, a nice gift shop, wide open spaces that are a nice antidote to the rest of the city which can feel crammed in, dirty and sad. 6. Hyde Park and Australian Museum. Has a fantastic permanent exhibition with minerals, if anyone is into that. Also, stuffed animals, animal skeletons, fossils, interesting screen exhibits and a dedicated kids space for the four year olds. 7. Market City and Paddy's Markets - a good place to buy cheap junk (Paddy's Market), a cool Asian supermarket and greasy everyday Asian food options at the food court in Market City as well as outlet shopping, if they were hoping for a cheap pair of jeans or shoes. Quality obviously not guaranteed. This is next to Chinatown if you like Yum Cha, and you might see some remnants of Chinese New Year celebrations. Sydney Tower/Eye thing is a bit dated, I dunno, I haven't been up there since 1993 and it didn't impress me much then, because I grew up in New Zealand so views have always been a dime a dozen, to me. But they might enjoy it. I have no idea how to get there. Best way to see the city is on the water so unless people get seasick, try to use the ferries. Lots of good selfie ops for the teenagers and excitement for the little ones. Don't go anywhere touristy on a Sunday - public transport is cheaper on Sunday and heaps of feral families travel in from the outer suburbs and have no fucking manners whatsoever. Luckily these deros never think to visit the Botanic Gardens so it can be a good day for that. Good luck! |

Above and beyond, cuz. Much appreciated.
I'll be absolutely sure to lean heavily upon all this, soaking up the warm light of misguided gratitude. |

Cry when you see dying grass trees in front of posh eateries. Marvel at the maidenhair ferns growing in weepy cracks in brick in the older parts of the city. Make sure to at least do one walk over the bridge (easier to go from Milsons point onwards)

No worries at all. Forgot to say that if they're Catholic, St. Mary's have a chorister program and the Director of Music and choir are fantastic at the moment. The Cathedral itself is pretty nice. Most males wear collared shirts I think. It's right next to Hyde Park, Australian Museum and a short stroll to the Gardens. On the other side of Hyde Park is the Westfield in the city which has the David Jones flagship store if they like department store shopping. The luxury brands are in the opposite direction toward Circular Quay. Good luck! Let us know how you get on.

chocolate therapy
Chocolate Therapy is Chocolate Ice Cream with Chocolate Cookies & Swirls of Chocolate Pudding Ice Cream. Think about that for a minute (or 7). |
