Are they pretending Prometheus didn't exist?
I was looking forward to Fassbender being only a head in the next film

It appears that Fassbender's character is another version of his robot character from Prometheus. And the trailer makes the new movie out like a rehash of the original film.

Alien is a top 10 movie for me. Ever since I was a little kid I've found the alien creature to be the scariest of monsters. But it's been so badly disrespected in the relentless cash-ins/rush-jobs since the 1st two films.

IMO alien: isolation is the only media to have gotten it right since like 1986. Not gonna get my hopes up for this one

totally agree. the first one from 1979 is up high in my all time greats list.

also, i had no idea about Alien: Isolation. checked it out and it seems like a pretty good play. it's a shame my laptop will probably melt trying to run it.

also fucking Susanne Sundfor on that soundtrack to the trailer, noice.

not a bad trailer. i'll probably be happy to watch this film, even if not expecting much from it. from what i remember Prometheus was, although a somewhat weak rehash of former film concepts, ambitious and beautiful to look at.

Agreed with the Alien/Aliens love. Ripley is a great role model in those movies (even moreso in Aliens than Alien)

Everything about that trailer seemed like a retread tho. Also apparently James Franco is in the movie, they are holding back the Franco

Yeah, no. This is just a re-dressed Prometheus sequel. They're just calling it Alien because nobody liked Prometheus.

As far as I'm concerned, the series began with Alien and ended with Aliens. A perfect and complementary set of films.

i always thought Aliens was like a 90's action hit offshoot film using the Alien franchise and characters. maybe it's a right place/right time kinda thing but i can't say it's highly revered in my book tbh

It most definitely is, but as good as Alien is I think Cameron was smart to keep the film as different as possible from the first. Also I love how they develop the Ripley character and you end up getting a female badass who also has a maternal aspect to her and finds some resolution to help her cope with the PTSD.

I can see how that may not be someone's cup of tea but to me it's a hell of a movie.

Also not sure about time and place thing as I only seen it in the early 00s long after the fact.

I think Resurrection is an entertaining b-movie diversion. It has a whole host of problems but is fun in a turn-your-brain-off sorta way. I mean, any movie that features Ron Pearlman and Brad Dourif is ok by me. Having said that, it ain't got shit on the first two films.

This. Aliens works so well because it's so different. Both films are perfection as far as I'm concerned and great for completely different reasons. You just can't go into Aliens expecting the same experience as Alien.

Also, can I just say that I find Michael Fassbender dull as dish-water? I mean, what the actual fuck. Why is Hollywood pushing this guy so hard? Sure, he's good looking enough, but he's just a big ol' hunk of nothing.

I have not. He was okay in Eden Lake as I recall. Ever see that one?

I dunno. I'm sure he's an alright guy, he just strikes me as bland. He's human oatmeal.

tbh there are plenty of hollywood guys like that these days.

joseph gordon levitt, ryan gosling (yeah yeah the dude's hot as shit - but he literally has ZERO acting ability or even charisma, he's just hot), jesse eisenberg, etc

Fassbender's two androids in this one IIRC.

Hey look! This time they come out of the back! How novel.

It just looks like Alien all over again but probably with the same kind of dipshit non-cast Prometheus had.

Alien and Aliens are two of my fave films, and I'm generous enough to be an A3 Assembly cut apologist, But this looks like it's gonna be a big ol' steaming pile of dung to my eyes.

Alien 3 is just boring to me.
I can at least appreciate that Alien Resurrection went full dumb and how committed they were to it. Still not a good movie tho.

I remember liking Winona in it tho <3

Alien 3 assembly cut is great, and sooooooo much better than theatrical. There's a good 45 minutes of critical plot and characterization that totally changes the impact of the 3rd act

Plus there's a whole sequence that's like a fire show ballet of slow motion prisoners going all cirque de soleil in the middle, when they blow themselves up on accident

Highly highly recommended to any alien geek
