Stephen Maturin is Catalan and detests the Castillian tyranny of his native state.

I was thinking the other day about how the story of Frankenstein has become one of those universal myths, ubiquitously repeated in a billion different iterations. The Matrix is Frankenstein. Terminator is Frankenstein. The trope of arrogance leading us to technologically create something which then destroys us seems to be the myth of the modern industrialized world. I can't think of any other single work of art from recent centuries which has influenced and infiltrated so many aspects of our culture, our psychology, etc.

I was trying to think of stories featuring the same central myth which predate Frankenstein but I came up blank. Can anyone think of any?

I thought of some which are slightly different, where the arrogance is more an affront to God, or man trying to be equal to God's power of creation. I guess Frankenstein is just a modern spin on that which really stays with people because suddenly we do have these amazing powers of creation and machination all around us in our homes and shit?

Yeah 3rd and 4th dark tower books were incredible

The recently released "wind through the keyhole" was pretty good actually

His recent Revival was pretty good

Loved the 3rd one. Not sure why I couldn't get through the 4th one. I remember there was one really uncomfortable part where this old witch fingered a teenage girl or something

Reading was neither encouraged nor discouraged growing up, at least what I can remember. I wasn't a voracious reader until I was an adult.

My first SK book was Under the Dome in 2010. Then I started at Carrie and would read them in chrono order amongst other non-SK books. When a new SK book would come out, I'd read it.
This is probably why his books don't scare me; I'm not impressionable like most people are when they first read him.

So Ive read thus far since 2010 Carrie through Thinner and Under the Dome through Finders Keepers.

Waiting to read the DT series back to back once I'm done with all the others.

You like his short stories at all? I've always felt his short stories to be better than his lengthier stuff. There's this story in Nightmmares and Dreamscapes in which killer man eating toads with razor fangs fall from the sky.

totes senescent.

there's this funny story, perhaps I read it in On Writing, where King was standing in line at the grocery store and this woman behind him was like hey, you look so familiar and he was like haha well I'm Stephen King. And the woman was like oh wow my daughter loves your books! But they are too dark for my tastes, you know I just saw the Shawshank Redemption and it was so uplifting, you should try writing something like that

I don't remember. Just that he was signing them and a worker accosted him and then he revealed himself (not inappropriately) and everything ended in smiles.
