Default Smashing Pumpkins on The Simpsons question:

This is something that I pondered at the time and nobodies ever been able to grant me an explanation.

Why was Peter Frampton on the Hullaballoo tour? You have this tour meant to represent the music of the time featuring Sonic Youth, Cypress Hill and Smashing Pumpkins and then outta the blue there's Peter Frampton? Is the punchline just that Sonic Youth raids his cooler and his finale was ruined cause someone left the inflatable pig out and that he was exasperated touring with such hooligans? Whatever the joke was supposed to be: it seemed pretty half-baked and they didn't really touch on it IIRC

I guess the jokes supposed to represent the changing of the "old-guard" but really, it's sort of far-fetched that Frampton would be on the tour in 1996 in the first place and it seemed like kind of a silly, unnecessary gag to throw into an otherwise hilarious episode.

I mean the whole washed up, past their prime bit was already hilariously displayed with the Homer flashback and his turmoil in his mid-life crisis type moment.

It always feels like words are being minced when references to a "strong personality" come into play, almost as if it were the nicest way possible of describing an irredeemably obstinate cunt.
