Default We haven't had this good of a year for music in a while

Between A Moon Shaped Pool, Sulk's "No Illusions," the amazing new Joy Formidable album and the great comeback album by Dandy Warhols this has been an awesome year for music. And that's not even taking into account the great alternative r&b stuff that came out this year like Majid Jordan, Roy Woods' "Waking Up At Dawn" PartyNextDoor's new stuff, AlunaGeorge's new stuff, and the Weeknd's leaked stuff.

Last year was better.

Faith No More. Failure. Refused.

Last year was so disappointing. The Tame impala album wound up being horrible. Coldplay album was horrible. Ghost stories was so great that I had hoped they would follow it up with something solid. Same with T. I. After lonerism I thought the next one would be great. And after the brilliant Kiss Land I was thinking the Weeknd's Beauty Behind the Madness was going to be great but no a lot of filler on that one too. Five horrible songs. I wasn't let down at all this year.

CW is right. We have a new Pretty Reckless album on the way. It's a very good year

TJF did outdo themselves. Interesting band with rather proggy elements around their core of alt-rock.

I'd throw No Joy's album in there as well for this year. They do shoegaze noise rock as well as anybody.

TJF album is so good. Some really beautiful sophisticated songs along with some more typical Nirvana sounding cuts.

I forgot about the new We Are Scientists album. Very good. Weezer fans would probably like it.

I didn't even realize that TJF had a new album out. I'm definitely gonna get on that shit

Moon Shaped Pool was indeed dope and an album that I actually paid money for

Tried Joy Formidable. Dunno, it's like I feel toward a lotta these 90s revival acts: makes me wanna just go listen to the source material. Drums sounded lifeless especially, but could chalk that up to listening on youtube

ewww...as a Rush and Smashing Pumpkins fan, a big part of the intrigue of The Joy Formidable for me is their drummer. He has a unique and very musical style that is a blend of Peart and Chamberlain. His ability allows TJF do rock as hard as anyone when they feel so inclined.

I would recommend you guys check out "no illusions" by Sulk if you like stuff that sounds like Ride's first two albums. They have a psychedelic shoe gaze sound similar to Ride but their singer is much better. It's a pretty trippy album like "nowhere"

I wouldn't compare him to Chamberlin or Peart. He's more like Grohl when he was playing with Queens of the Stone Age. Grohl's work with Josh Homme was a lot more intricate and sophisticated then when he was with Kurt. I would actually go so far as to say that he was a better drummer overall working with Josh. That's who this guy reminds me of.

Grohl is not what I would call a musical drummer with splashy cymbals and super fills which keeps a hurried pace to things. Matt Thomas of TJF 'in the pocket' beat has a similar cadence to the Yeah Yeah Yeah's with light but consistent plodding. Grohl has some of that, just much heavier with a more traditional rock back-beat.
