Yes, he had no depth of character at all. Like a cardboard cutout. Absolutely no humanity in him. He just liked outsmarting women and then killing them because it made him feel powerful. I find those types to be the most boring serial killers - the ones who primarily display narcissism.

Very tl;dr but if you do read it watch out, some of this stuff is among the worst I've ever heard of. Don't say I didn't warn you.

I find Bundy to be a boring asshole - much preferred to read about Dahmer. It also helps the Dahmer did in depth interviews after he got caught (and so did his parents), and while I wouldn't say he had remorse for his crimes, he did seem to wish he would have got caught early or been able to stop.

But I've basically exhausted reading about all of the known popular serial killers.
Thanks for the warning, I'm not sure if I'm in a good mood for that right now, maybe after dinner, I'm saving the link

I'm somehow fascinated about the unabomber, I mean, not that I think he is great, but he is like the archetypal comic book villan, it is fascinating that he actually exists

I found him interesting for a while, just because he didn't fit the "stereotypical serial killer" if there even is one. I also found it interesting that he decided to act as his own defence for a while.

I read Ann Rule's book on him but found it offputting when she'd constantly mention how intelligent, suave and "brilliant" he was. She kept in touch with him for a long time after it was obvious to everyone he was guilty, and I think she did it just to be able to write a more successful book about him and their relationship.

Now I agree with you that he was "boring". Some cop summed him up well when he said Bundy was "an empty suit."

he was so narcissistic he that he really thought he could make people believe he was not guilty. even after escaping and killing more women. like he really believed he was just so amazing and brilliant that they wouldn't execute him.

he may have been clever but he had no perspective.

never could get into Rule's books. she gushed way too much about bundy for sure.

I do this too but I wouldn't call it a hobby because it depends on me actually seeing a movie first.

Honestly my internet usage would be my strangest hobby because I just can't explain it to people out of embarrassment and shame.

I clicked that link because I'm not very impressionable. Horrible images don't usually haunt my head. In fact, after reading the transcript, I simply stopped thinking about it. I moved on like I always do - except it's been over an hour now, and I still feel this constant, low level anxiety. Probably won't be able to shake it off until I fall asleep.

Do not recommend.

This used to be one of my hobbies as well... but I'm mostly interested in ritual abuse, satanic abuse, cults, etc. It's one of the reasons I got into this field. My interest was sparked many years ago when I took a job working as a pt receptionist for a psychiatrist that worked with ritual abuse/cult victims.

May I suggest http://www.reddit.com/r/aww

It didn't affect me that much, just because I've been through similar things A LITTLE BIT (let me emphasize a LITTLE BIT) and I've heard real life stories not that far off. I've also read a lot about abuse and predators and psychopathy and ritual abuse etc. But I recognize fucked up when I see it.

I've experience RA not related to SA or cults... I've also met tons of people who have been exposed to all three. Do you work with clients who have experienced these things? I've had group therapy and stuff with patients and they are fucking intense.

This one is pretty bad too: http://web.archive.org/web/200812040...s/fish/17.html

That whole article is a bunch of WTFs... but it's for a different reason than the David Parker Ray tape. I mean with DPR he literally played that tape for someone as soon as they woke up after being kidnapped, while they were tied down and shit, and then did all that shit to him. The stuff with the dog may be the worst part... I'm not sure. It speaks to how fucked up he was that something like that might not even be the worst thing he subjected women to.

No, not yet, but that's the direction I would like to go in private practice. My only exposure was in a group setting (in Ca) where I co facilitated a group that was dealing specifically with religious/satanic/sexual abuse victims. It was quite an experience. After this I decided to write my first research paper on a particular religious cult, Wayne Bent aka Michael Travesser, otherwise known as the End of the World cult. (There's videos on youtube, and Natl geo did a documentary on him.) I was able to speak with Wayne and two of his followers for two months before he was sent to prison. After he was locked up, one of his women went on a hunger strike for his release and nearly died.

After that, I started researching the Twelve Tribes, also known as The Community. But they cut me off when they realized I was not going to join them.

I stayed up reading that transcript.... needless to say, I had a hard time falling asleep after that! The part about the dogs... God what a fucking nightmare....
