You should have seen me when i joined this forum, a real fucking hippie (well not literally but you know). Then i found out people sucked. I'm a proud misanthrope. There's no other logical reaction to mankind.

I was going to expand my original post to address some of these points, pre-emptively, but i'll just address this one.

the main one being - i think what seperates, say, book lovers vs the writers of books is that the writers always thought it could go at least one more step beyond the things that they love. or to combine all the things that they love.

I mean if I thought Joseph Cornell was the greatest fucking artist ever in every way, why would I bother making my boxes filled with stuff in them?

For gosh's sakes I created a second soundcloud account just because i am still trying to figure out a way to push two seemingly different ideas into one finite form.

I don't know jack shit about these kids (my ex-gf tried to get me to follow the boy on twitter a year or so back) but i think they're getting a right smart (yet very different) upbringing that fosters creativity instead of conformity. that's a good thing, remember?

I used to sound just like that too i'm pretty sure in another life.

Also, selfish is not something I am. In fact with those i love, it may be that it's too much their well being way above mine. I don't see how my opinion of the smiths and their poor parenting skills has anything to do with being selfish anyway.

I have my own values and standards. I stand by them. I think everyone should do the same with their own. You might judge them to be wrong, that's the way it is with values. We don't all have the same. It might make me an asshole to some. I accept that. Sitting back and saying nothing is not an acceptable option to me. I don't actually believe in live and let live that much. Saying and doing nothing when we see something that is not in accordance with our values or principles or whatever you want to call it is enabling that which we think is wrong to continue (i'm not pulling that card don't worry but it bear mentioning its obviously the principle behind freedom of speech). And yes i think parents raising their kids to be insufferable narcissists IS very much an issue today that people do in fact need to get called out on. And no i'm obviously not gonna make a difference in the smiths lives not now or ever, but i certainly feel it is my duty to call their offspring awful or rather, their rearing skills lacking. If i didn't, i actually wouldn't feel right with myself.

I probably shouldn't let it anger me that much (which often leads to the poor wording of my opinions) but it's an accumulation for this sort of things. I mean of being confronted with narcissistic kids raised to believe they're the greatest thing and that everyone else is just actors in the movie of their magnificent lives. For one with the smiths kids, they've been really pissing me off for years but i thought it would get better now that they were older, nope, they're only getting worse.

And seriously oh who cares what celebrities do or think? why let it bother us?...really? Cause they ARE celebrities. And you know what that means? Millions of people are watching them, and some of them are ACTUALLY using some celebrities as models to follow. So when Jaden and Willow smith are being narcissistic idiots, that can only probably unfortunately mean that a certain % of american kids who may like them will follow right in their footsteps.

And i agree with charmbag that most novels today are trash but somehow i don't think that willow smith is gonna be the one making a positive difference in the literary world, now or in 40 years.

So maybe they don't yet have a well developed ability to see things from the perspective of others but there are much worse crimes being committed by many more people who should know better.
