I know you have all been on the edge of your seats waiting for news of my discharge from the ol' lunatic asylum, so you'll be pleased to know I'll be leaving for good in under three weeks. After that I'll have time to devote myself to... my various pursuits.

I feel better than I have in years and definitely no longer need to be on a ward. In fact, my psychiatrist thinks I've been ready since January, there have just been lots of delays and trouble finding me a suitable place to live.

It's weird but freedom makes me a bit anxious, as I've been a bit institutionalized. I'll give this a good shot, though, and I don't think I'l end up getting readmitted like so many patients I've seen leave and come back.

i thought that the laws were such that even when claiming insanity once you were deemed sane you'd have to finish your sentence in an actual prison, not be released into society.

Well, I have been having leave to the place I'm going to be living - I'm there now. Even before that I could go online in the local library once I was given "unescorted community leave." Message boards were pretty much all blocked in the library, however.

Well, you don't know why I was detained in the first place, what kind of unit I was in, or my "mental health history". You don't know what Section I am on or how I ended up in hospital. And I've never "claimed insanity"; I may be lucid now but some years back I wasn't on this planet.

I am interested in those details, EM. If you want to PM them to me or whatever, that would be cool, but I totally understand if it is too private or you just don't want to.

I was in the psych hospital probably 8 times in 2 years but never for more than 3 weeks and never at a long term facility. Not in 4+ years now though... and I'm now a psychology student and function pretty well in the world, though I am on several psychotropic meds and have therapy twice per week.

It was always my impression most shrinks were actually a little bit crazy.

Certainly i think the last one i saw had issues. When i told her i wasn't gonna come anymore she sounded like she had self-esteem problems. Like she took it very personally. To be honest yes, i think she sucked.

Also the school shrink in high school had one of the most fucked up child in the whole school. Like i thought i was chronically shy but this guy was something else. I'm pretty sure he never talked to anyone ever unless absolutely forced to (to be fair that's kinda me now). I wouldn't be surprised if this ended in suicide. :-\

It was kinda ironic like DUDE, your kid REALLY NEEDS HELP more than anyone else in this damn school. But maybe that's why he was fucked up. Maybe his dad had him in therapy since birth. Who knows.
