But maybe what I mean to say is Punk rather than Rock.

What I mean in the most general sense Is that SP is a band for dudes that are or were girly weirdos. It's not for people who believe in gender roles and who are against homosexuality.

It's the only band from the 90's that my Dad doesn't listen to because it's for wussies.

The idea of a white male Republican being like "Yeah! Smashing Pumpkins!" Is really weird to me.
In fact, he's the only one I've ever talked to. There are libertarians but even they're really in the minority, and they're just more anarchist than anything else.

And when I said Rock I didn't mean like Fuzzy type of bands but rather Proto-Punk, Punk, Post-punk, Alternative etc.

I mean, I would expect Republicans to listen to GunsNroses and ACDC and like Metallica and other lame shit

I was a bit of a loser in love in my teens, but I preferred to see myself as a hopeless romantic. Pumpkins' songs did often reflect my feelings, whether they were beautiful love songs or some undefined angst. I was a bit of an outsider in school, but not really a "misfit". I often befriended those who did get bullied, just because they always seemed like the most interesting people.

I was okay at sports and got fairly good grades, but I spent a lot of time daydreaming and writing grandiose poetry. Later I wore mascara, eye shadow and painted nails, but it wasn't a conscious effort to emulate my favourite bands or anything, I just felt like it. Wearing make-up in a small town did get me singled out on occasion, and a couple of times homophobes threatened to kick my ass, but hey. So, yeah, stuff like SP appealed to me, but then I also loved hip-hop (including some 'gangsta rap') so I guess I was confused (or just eclectic).

When I was in high school I was just mega obsessed with the Pumpkins because it was the only post-punkish music I got exposed to. Well that and Marilyn Manson but I didn't really dig the metal part of It. Though it's how I met my only couple of friends. Dude was wearing a MM shirt and I was like "Hey MM"

I think Punk and all things related is a safe haven for liberals and "weirdos" to get together, take shelter from, and make fun of conservatives, religion, and our fascist society.

So yes, I absolutely do want to shut out conservatives. But I mean I don't actually care if they listen or not, it doesn't affect me

It's a pretty broad genre. But I was particularly referring to like The Cure's influence on The Pumpkins.

And 80's Goth influence is pretty obvious in Manson's music like, you know, Bauhaus

Also Morrissey isn't androgynous at all. The word you're looking for is "gay"

Lol "Liberal Punk". That's not how it works. Punk implies liberal at the very least socially. It's like the whole point of the genre. There were stupid white conservatives masquerading as punks ruining shit for people.

Well sure, but as an image he chose to purposely not comment on his sexuality and to claim to be celibate because the point was androgyny

Is Billy really Christian or just fucking crazy? Both? Every time he talks about it, it's just in this wishy washy weirdness. Like recently he said he was agnostic or something I don't even know. I don't think he actually knows what he believes either.

But that's not even my point. It's not my intention to say that Christians can't Rock. Just not the type of Christians who think their God doesn't want gays to get married

I liked when he had the mentality of like "I don't really have the authority to say anything about politics I'm just a guitar player"

Well Corgan is always babbling on about Jesus and has said before that he goes to church.

As far as rockstars go it makes total sense that Billy would attract all sorts of religious folk.
