Just kind of make me give up on humanity

like today i was reading one related to getting a job in another place and this "Social Media Intern" was telling me that i should start 'developing your social network' before you move, often by looking up people that went to college with you on facebook and fucking LinkedIn (which i think is hands down one of the worst social media sites on the internet). I skimmed the article but it reads like most of this shit does, "friends" are commodities you acquire to help you "get ahead" and "climb the ladder" and fucking etc

in the glorious communist republic of trotskyland there will be no social media it will be OUTLAWED and instead, you will need to "network" with your friends at the Local Pub or the Taco Distribution Agency

To stay on top of meetings and events, make a separate calendar (Or at least a color code) for your move-related activities. Whenever you schedule coffee or a Skype session with someone, add an event. If using Google Calendar or another service that allows, invite them to it, with a message to remind who you are and what you talked about.

unfortunately this kind of thing is being rewarded now. these are the new professionals of our generation, the ones who use people like commodities and are obsessive workaholics. ultimately they will make a modest salary that is still well below the adjusted-for-inflation average of american workers.
