Yeah, I'm not upset about the loss. I don't think I care enough about soccer to be, plus we all knew this was a sort of shitty generation. After 3 world cup titles from 1958 to 1970, we didn't win anything for 24 years. Then we reached 3 finals from 1994 to 2002 and were champions twice. Now it's time to lose again.

But I admit it's sort of annoying to see people from developed countries (mostly on twitter) trying to police how Brazil spends its money. It's not that there isn't anything to criticize - there certainly is. But there's always a paternalistic tone to their words. I'm sorry, but you don't get to pretend you're above it all when you've pillaged/conquered/exploited half the world.

i've seen two different apartment buildings get flipped in my old neighborhood in the last year (which i got thrown out of 2 year ago now when the land lords realized how much value the house suddenly had). they just chunk every one out on their ass, give the building the makeover and improvements it's been dying to have for 20+ years, slap some fucking neon on it and name it some out-of-context verb and all of a sudden white kids are just fucking bending over backwards to pay 800-900 dollars for a studio apt where crackheads used to live LESS THAN ONE SINGLE YEAR AGO

what insults me the most about gentrification is that nobody would live in these places 2-3 years ago and now that someone came by with some paint and some horizontal fencing and threw all the poor people out now these sanctimonous white liberal douchebags move in and start talking about how fucked up gentrification is and how they're a world town fair trade eco footprint recyclable cups no bags prius driving npr listening toms wearing bike rack having concern for the poor

Its the same every where across north america. My neighborhood was already pretty gentrified (it hasnt been a poor area since the 70's or 80's at least) or so i thought. Last 5 years has seen pretty much one building turned into a condo every year in JUST a two streets radius. I wouldn't be surprised if mine was considering its old and ugly and some people in it like me pay 1/3 of what they should for the area. Basically this area used to be hippies and hipsters in the lower part, and bobos in the upper part. The hippies and hipsters deserted to the area above the bobos, now its bobos everywhere OR rich college douchebags (Mcgill isnt that far). Except for the parts with portuguese. They're likely the only thing keeping this place from full gentrification since it's been their neighborhood for decades. Might change now... all the nice cheap eating places are going out of business because eww, middle class won't touch this. The cheap bars and music venues too, the rich college crowd wants douchey clubs.

i noticed this in Boulder, CO. Subarus, Priuses and Volvos everywhere, most donned with bike racks and Obama stickers. The only black person I saw was behind the counter at chipotle. Also, 450sqft studios for $800/mo.
