Default Who here has sleep paralysis?

Another SP topic. More people than I expected. I was on the phone with a friend and what he described was SP. Another friend of mine told me a while ago about some SP episodes he used to have. It's more common than I thought. It kind of fascinates me because it's a disorder no one ever talks about yet it's so frequent. I guess it can be described as the brain's ability to shut off movement during REM so that the body will not harm itself emulating movements during dreams, and that SP is a result of nerve misplacement. But I think it's kind of freaky that the most common, even universal of all the hallucinations that people get during SP are always of demonic or looming shadowy figures. I never really see such things. Who else gets SP here?

if SP is equivalent to night terrors, then yes.

in my case it usually occurs during a much needed nap - one i'm very well relaxed going into. i'll usually have pretty clear dreams before they occur, and at some crucial point in the dream i'll wake up, completely unable to move. i'm aware that i'm not fully conscious, but i can sort-of see out of my eyes. the lines of reality and dream are blurred, and i'm left with a slight pressure on my chest (the signature of night terrors).

some examples of the point in dreams that i "wake up":

a) i'm running away from hitmen in a building parking lot, only to be shot and killed.

b) someone is cutting open my throat (this one was particularly creepy-feeling)

c) i'm in a revolving door and i'm being shot at through the glass, only to leave my body and realize it isn't me.

d) assorted situations in which i'm being pursued or cornered by something nasty.

despite the nasty sound of all of it, i think they're pretty cool . i'm perfectly aware of what's happening to me, so i just kinda go along for the ride.

Question

how can you know if they occur, though?
sometimes i feel very trapped in that middle realm between dreams and wake, but it never lasts long enough for me to believe it's actually sleep paralysis.

Something like that has happened to me a few times. I'll be sleeping, and in my head, I'll tell myself to get up, but I can't. It's like I'm stuck in some kind of other realm and it scares me to the point where I think I might be dead or something.

I have a friend with sleep paralysis but two of my friends have something call sexomnia which is pretty much self explanatory - they try to fuck in their sleep and don't remember it. I thought they were making it up but it's actually a disorder.

I get it, but not too often. I've had it twice really bad. The first time I had it, I woke up and obviously couldn't move, which freaked me out. Then I started hearing things, like people walking in my room, and I started freaking out but I couldn't do anything about it. I had this little cubby hole thing in my room and I saw a cat (didn't have cats in my room) jump out of it and land on my stomach & knock all the air out of me, I ended up passing out/falling back asleep.

The second time wasn't that long ago (about 2-3 months). JP and Paul were playing video games and I fell asleep in the chair behind them. I was in that half-conscious state the whole time I was asleep, so I could hear the video games. I ended up slowly waking up, except I couldn't open my eyes all the way and I couldn't talk. I tried moaning to get their attention so one of them would wake me up, but I couldn't do much. It was the weirdest feeling, then Paul was like "oh she must be having a good dream" and I remember thinking "NO YOU DIPSHIT!!! SHAKE ME DAMMIT!" Then I ended up falling asleep and waking up about 20 mins later feeling fine, but I yelled at them anyhow.
