how competitive is whatever you're interviewing for, if you don't mind me asking

i'm still sort of fascinated about the transition from full time school to full time work.

I've hired 4 college grads in the past 4 years. Every one of them is impressive, incredibly hard working and I'm proud of how well they've all done. Each of them was promoted within 12 months of starting an entry level job.

pretty competitive. I don't know how to quantify it. But we're competing with companies like Kraft, P&G, Target, etc. to hire grads out of specific degree programs at half a dozen colleges in the US. For entry level hires they'll need to come from a specific degree program, have a high GPA (upper three point) and have a quality internship on their resume. Most of them will get competitive offers from a number of companies.

This year we'll hire 80 paid interns and hire three dozen for permanent entry level positions. We talked to about 100 today. two dozen will get longer follow up interviews tomorrow.

what's the starting salary?

varies... depends whether we're placing someone with a BA/BS or an MBA. A few might make it into an accelerated leadership program that would start north of 40k. the rest below that. But most of the entry level hires are promoted within 24 months and can make significantly more than that after a promotion.

They were born and raised under different circumstances though so their outlook is different. A lot of Gen Xers were born into single parent households or their parents got divorced when they were young. Gen Yers had a different more stable upbringing.

no

when gen x emerged from college into the job market it was the 90s and the land of fruit and plenty, especially if you were inclined towards software and computers...however that's still fairly true still

when the economy collapsed in 08 they were old enough to have the experience to make them keepers and not old enough to can to save on pensions and retirement benefits or wages

gen x is born in the right time, the right place, and they're generally the last american generation to have it better than their parents.

i think scot understands most of this, or at least agrees with some of it so he's not that bad. nimrod thinks he's fuckin john galt.
