Michigan GOP official: ‘Herd all the Indians’ to Detroit, build a fence and throw in corn

Patterson recalled telling his children to “get in and get out” if they needed to go to Detroit.

“And, before you go to Detroit, you get your gas out here. You do not, do not, under any circumstances, stop in Detroit at a gas station! That’s just a call for a carjacking,” he said.

Patterson also proposed a fix to Detroit’s financial problems: Turn the city into a reservation for Native Americans.

“I made a prediction a long time ago, and it’s come to pass. I said, ‘What we’re gonna do is turn Detroit into an Indian reservation, where we herd all the Indians into the city, build a fence around it, and then throw in the blankets and the corn.’”

these types of right wing rants about Detroit are what passes as acceptable racism in Michigan. It's a way of bashing african americans and scoring points with the racist suburbanites that don't live there, work there or pay taxes in Detroit. It's not nearly as bad as when Kwame was mayor. Back then you'd hear people refer to him as the "pimp mayor" and other racist crap like that. As if a corrupt black politician somehow makes racial slurs ok.


The only reason the city is in the trouble it's in today is racism.

Yes, I'm naive,plus I have no clue about US laws. But isn't there at least one law that Patterson is breaking with these statements? Discrimination? Racist hate speech... anything?

in all fairness what happened in germany was like this kid on the playground wants to fight you and you kick his ass. Then instead of letting him up, you kick him in the stomach, stomp on his head, spit on him, and hit him again every time he tries to stand up and leave.
