I'm a victim of identity theft

Someone tried to file for unemployment with my SS#. They totally picked the wrong person, because Publix heavily researches unemployment claims, and even if I got laid off I wouldn't be eligible for unemployment because I'm on the disability ticket to work and vocational rehabilitation programs. I found out because Publix told me they had received the request and they were just giving me a heads up.

So I am faxing a paper back with some infos saying I did not apply and to investigate for fraud.

I called the unemployment office and reported fraud, and they froze benefits being paid out. BUT, I don't know if this will affect my SSDI. the SSA is supposed to call me back. Plus I need to report identity theft to them

This is a big pain in the ass. I reported to the unemployment office, my employer, the credit beauros, and about to for SSA. I still have to call the FTC, my banks, make a police report, and call the IRS.

I pulled my credit reports and they are fine. My score went up 18pts in December. No one better fuck with that.

that happened to a friend of mine and i'm pretty sure she wasn't able to fight it. she wasn't all there though, so i can't tell what really happened. i remember her getting worked up about how i was able to get a social security card without being a US citizen lol

wasn't able to fight what? someone else using her identity? i think in the most extreme cases they actually give you a new SS#

Someone used my ss# to sign up for a utility once. It was quite a mess. I still had to pay the bill to get my electric on while they sorted it out.

Oh I'm sorry I wasn't specific. She said the person was able to use her name for a while and ruined her credit really badly. It had happened two years before I met her, and her credit was still bad then. It seems like you caught it before the person did any damage like that though, so I would think you're ok. Hope it's all sorted by now!
