this is the kind of remarkable thing you don't see in other sports

the only sport with this kind of long range passing is am. football but you don't see quarterbacks hooking their passes to go around defenders...

if only that defender was a step faster the whole thing would have been ruined

Can we also discuss the weirdness of bookies advertising extensively throughout the football league?

That's weird right?

our beloved lilywhites go up against United today. Hoping we win by at least two points so we can finally have a non-negative goal difference. Rooney's back in today after an injury so I'm not considering it very likely.

Slim margins at the top.

Spurs are doing a couple stateside friendlies, one of which is against the Sounders FC in Seattle. Might have to travel cross country for that.

pretty satisfying hearing of arsenal's epic loss. and they weren't even a man down like tottenham was last week.

I will definitely be following a lot more MLS come next season and Orlando is playing in it. Our colors really suck though. Red and purple. I don't want to wear that shit in public.

United 0-1 Fulham right now. Would be fantastic to watch Fulham win today.

san antonio scorpions are apparently candidates for an mls franchise. the league commissioner has been pushing expansion and plans to bring in 2 or 3 more teams i think. nycfc, orlando city sc and beckham's miami team are already coming in 2015 and 2017.

The tattoos are far more visible in the NBA, so they get the thug rep (because tattoos = thug lyfe, having glasses makes you smart, etc.)

i think avb reluctantly played adebayor once while someone was injured. in retrospect, that could be the sole reason for sacking him and it'd be legitimate.

i haven't bee following long, but given the path that sherwood took took to managing the spurs (played with them for four seasons, assistant managed for 5 under harry and AVB, and the job was given to him instead of some outsider), it feels like he's going to become a longtime holder of that position.

i don't understand why promoting from within does happen more often at those levels. for instance, moyes is pushing a tactical agenda onto man u that simply is not working. partially because it's not a style of football that they're used to. it's a testament to how much influence a manager has. you can't just have a good roster. it seems to me that if you put a former united player in that position who is familiar with the culture of the team, who is not an outsider and has the respect of the guys on the pitch, you'd have a lot more success.

i just looked up avb's career information and it looks like he never actually played football professionally. that doesn't surprise me in the least.

though if i were to defend avb's decision to bench andebayor, it's that spurs fans could not stand him, likely due to the fact that he played for arsenal for 4 seasons.

there was also this match which tottenham lost because they played a man down for 71 minutes after a completely unnecessary high tackle by ade henthey were up by 1 goal (the goal he himself put in):

see 3:40.

But he's more than redeeemed himself in my opinion. I think the fact that he now celebrates goals by saluting towards the supporters section reflect a complete change in attitude. class player, really.

well they also played questionable tactics and were giving up goals to people when they have lloris, vertonghen, kaboul, and walker

those guys are fucking dope. verts and kaboul and lloris should see deep world cup runs. england is like notre dame they are not half as good as they think they are.

it's funny on the game he was always my reserves manager so it was surprising

lots of successful guys aren't. sir alex wasn't, mourinho, there's a lot of guys in english soccer who like to manage a bottom half or championship side and get them in and then walk away...i think that's success of a sort.

king pep not only worked in the barca system he refined it, and the national team for a rather intomidable stretch these last 10 years. so, like pete carroll winning a super bowl when once college coaches were untouchable by the pro game, i think we'll see a lot more system guys

Quote:

particluarily annoying because from what i understand sir alex's talent was to be able to realize the best tactics for the squad he had against the competition he's got

and perhaps that's the direction to go but it seems man u is committed to it because it's hard to judge after a few decades under one guy and i'm all for it, frees up a champs league spot for spurs

that 10/11 porto team was incredibly good though

looking through the roster he had a considerable amount of talent. hulk was smashing puny goalkeepers, he had moutinho in center field, falcao for fucks sake, guarin, varela, and helton in the back.

i would also like to point out: Villas-Boas left the club with the highest percentage of league wins of any manager in the club's Premier League era.
