I can't do more than 2 episodes at a time. I can only cry my eyes out for about an hour a day.

I'm torn.

On the one hand Gervais obviously cares about the subject matter and his Derek character, and Pilkington is surprisingly good in it (probably because his character is de facto him in a different job).

On the other hand I can't take Gervais seriously.
As much as I want to feel touched by his writing and acting, all I can see is the guy who did all the radio shows and podcasts playing a "slow" person.
Doesn't work for me.

You're saying it's a stretch for you to see a mentally challenged individual portrayed by someone you've long recognized as not disabled, therefore shattering the illusion and dismantling your suspension of disbelief?

Kind of.
It's hard to explain, I have this weird love-hate for Gervais and most of the things he's done. Eh, who cares.

In related news: I'm absolutely disappointed by Stephen Merchant's new show, "Hello Ladies". Almost as dull as "Life's Too Short".

I know what you mean though. The character Derek is great but he's still Rick.
