I'm pretty sure when the price of fossil fuels starts to skyrocket due to depletion we're going to start seeing cohabitation skyrocket as well - all the McMansions are gonna be filled with multiple families as the cost of living efficiently (thermodynamically speaking) in a densely populated urban center becomes unobtainable for the vast majority of people, and traveling large distances to relatively remote locations via automobile also becomes a practical impossibility. Not sure if the culture will adapt to the idea of living with parents as socially "acceptable", in all likelihood nothing will change since culture is dictated from the top down by the folks with access to resources, which will probably be less than one half of 1% by that time, will be too busy pretending to trickle wealth down on all the peons living together in the country, cause we all know real America is the space between dense population centers, I want my yard and my SUV goddamnit, trains are socialism, living efficiently is uncool - end rant

I have absolutely nothing against people living with parents, and I love mine, but I'm very glad I'm not. Our relationship is much better when we have some distance.

Alright. I don't mean to be rude. Actually I was hoping to be helpful.

My parents came and stayed for 10 days and I missed them when they left. I could live with them and I half expect to, being the only daughter. Plus I'm the oldest and I feel that the arrival of my brothers spoiled things for me a bit and they haven't paid quite enough attention to me yet. So when they're old and need assistance there will be plenty of time for that.
