i remember my best friend playing a vangelis cd for me once when were probably in the 10th grade (just getting into this "other" stuff) and i was like dude this sucks.

i think what it comes down to is the symphonic element. too many instruments/too much going on for my taste.

obviously i prefer the minimal stuff in that genre.

if you're looking for hints though i would recommend checking out the soundtrack bill wymann from the rolling stones did for a movie called "green ice". haven't seen the movie but i just pretend its about future weed. hands down my favorite ost.

heres the "song with words" from the movie

edit - after watching that 2nd video i'm going to have to get in gear and look for the movie.

speaking of badalamenti (semi-related), i saw the original pressing of the eraserhead ost in a shop for like $8 and, while i didn't necessarily want it, i told myself i wasn't going to buy it just to sell for profit. i kind of regret that decision.

which leads me to - i can never get enought work of angelo badalementi. he is woefully under-worked. also i realize he's not on the eraserhead ost but that just reminded me of it.

john williams is as bad as danny elfman tho sj. overrated 2 the max.

badalamenti and morricone are probably my two favs. that eraserhead soundtrack isnt too hard to find, im sure youll see one again. the original pressing can be had for under 25 bucks easy. its the deluxe reissue from a few years ago that is worth a lot.

its john barry that i'm sick of seeing.

i was thinking 35 for the original press of eraser. would have been a "worth-it" profit. didn't know that about the reissue though. but this was the first time i had seen it.
