Default Best place to live in the U.S.?

If you could live anywhere, where would it be? I'm still looking around for a good city, either coastal or not too land locked and I'm undecided. I've been thinking about checking out South Padre.

I've wanted to move to either Austin or somewhere in Colorado for awhile now.

Colorado is really nice, but I'm kind of tired of being land locked. Since I'm near a pretty large lake, it doesn't feel so bad but I'm missing the ocean.

because i'm in a niche industry i'll probably be stuck here forever. unless i want to go to ohio.. no thnx

but if that wasn't the reality i'd probably choose somewhere in the northwest like oregan or something. its not too metro, not too hick. colorado used to be high on my list but people there are a little whacko, and not in a endearing eccentric kind of way.

There are some wackos up here too, but they mostly stay in the woods, and only come into town for groceries and stuff.

I'm kind of wanting a nice coastal area that's good for families, with a sense of community. Something out of a Nicholas Sparks novel.

A long time ago i was thinking I wanted to live in Vermont, or somewhere up in Maine. I don't mind harsh winters.

better yet. Sea Ranch. that coastal utopia the hippies tried to build back in the 60's. didn't quite catch on, but, what's there now is a truly sovereign area replete with its own water and energy sources. but the Fukushima over time...i dunno know bout the west coast anymore. the Gulf? errrmmmm...things to consider.

I've already lived in Pacifica. It was nice but I really don't want to go back.

I need to be outside of the city, but within a 30 - 45 min commuting distance. My daughter does not want to go back to Ca. Lately, she's been telling me we shouldn't go there. I think she's gotten used to a small town... where she feels relatively safe and the community here is a little more tight knit. Most parents are really nice and look after each others kids, etc. She would love to just stay here, but I don't see this as a place i want to put roots down. And yeah, the radiation is a concern. I don't think we know exactly how much we will get there.

Asheville is in the blue ridge mountains. Mild winters. About 5 hour drive to the beach. Pretty good deal. Surrounding cities like Black Mountain and Hendersonville might be good to look at, too.

I hear good things about the Carolina's, though I've never been.

honestly though Starla, i thought you were in the Rockies region because that's the best place to be in case the pole shift stuff is on point and that region up north through Canada becomes a breadbasket.

If you're saying the zionist who nuked the seabed to create the tsunami and provide cover for the stuxnet attack at Fukushima which has led to quite possibly the worst catastrophe in all of human history to get at me, you might have a point.

Both good towns. Asheville's job market sucks depending on what kind of work you want to do and is relatively more expensive than the surrounding areas but is worth it. I'm looking at moving back within the year.

Charleston is a gem and the only redeemable part of SC.

Pittsburgh has spoiled me. We're about to sign a lease on a 1400 sq foot apartment and we'll be paying less than 75 cents a sq foot per month.

And I'll be damned if I have to pay 2 figures for a meal at any Asian restaurant.

i like washington dc area and outlying suburbs. baltimore is a wonderful place to raise a family. im thinking about moving to detroit and buying one of those burned out houses to be a freelance artist and help gentrify an area that once had a rich culture of hard labor, pain and suffering.
