I was trying to be funny but yeah I see what you're saying. I guess I've always felt the need to keep drinking as a very specific separate activity that can't bleed too much into daily life because of growing up with alcoholics who would sometimes use their ~sophisticated~ taste in beer and wine to mask their need to be at least kinda buzzed every single day.

on top of that, wine triggers my ice pick headaches and beer is gross to me except piss beers I can choke down and those are for partying anyway

I appreciate the subtleties amongst different varieties of gin though

There are some, but most don't come off as being antisocial loners, at least to me.

After going to bars for half of my life I don't get much out of it anymore. I don't like to be really drunk in a non-private setting, so nonstop drinking isn't for me. And random guys hitting on you isn't my idea of a good evening, either.

I do love pubs/bars with good live music, though.

I only go to bars to play poker and eat hot wings. It's moderately entertaining.

just kidding.

it really just depends on set and setting for me. when i lived in portland i had a few neighborhood bars i hung out in all the time because i didnt want to sit in my apartment and drink alone or whatever.

if i have to drive to a bar, im just not going to go at all. id rather not have a dui. buy if there was a bar in walkin distance id probably be up in that every now and then to unwind. otherwise the only time ill go bar hopping is if someone is having a bday or whatever binge fest.

i just like stuff i like when i wanna like unless im not liking it which would mean i wouldnt like it but other than that i like stuff i like and dislike things i dont unless the moment or effects of the drugs im on kick in which changes reality and makes me like things i hate and then im loving that shit i hate on and being that thing i normally hate but liking it at that particular time so im liking it thinking hey i like this shit i normally hate but its not like im gonna just start lovig it all the time if i just liked it that one time when i didnt even like it but i did like it so its like why did i hate that when i really do like it or if i hated it and liked it simultaniously.

its complicated.

thats the deal with me there are no bars i want to go to in walking distance. there's a "hip hop" bar/club across teh street. but, yeah, no. all the cool bars are in the neighborhoods where a 1 bedroom is $1000/mo or you get a roach filled studio for slightly less

For a time, I lived a block away from a little area that had four bars. If my neighbor and I weren't drinking outside the apartment complex with the other neighbors, we were walking to these bars and getting sloshed. We drank a lot, simply because there was no driving involved.

One of the semi-homeless dudes who drank with us ended up stabbing someone and going to jail for attempted murder.

WELP.

having a neighborhood bar within walking distance is ideal. to hell with driving to a club.

you know why i don't like bars these days? because most of the people i know from my time in them are alcoholics or otherwise boring, self centered blowhards. it was fun for a bit but 10 years it's getting real old, real fast.

and the only people defending bars in this thread suck real bad so that, again, is making my argument for me
I like bars ok, but, as usual, I can see where you're going with this. I enjoy going much less than I did when I was 22 or even 30.

If I'm going to a bar these days, it's to get a couple of beers in me before heading home. Kinda interesting: was talking to my Dad the other day and he said he did the same thing for years (except he'd stop and get a couple of double dueces at the "filling station"). Takes the edge off while transitioning between high-stress environment #1 (work)and potentially high-stress enviorment #2 (home).

And that, as they say, is alcoholism.

i do not like bars on weekends or late in the evening. later in the evening can be okay if it's a tuesday or something and a weekend day is fine if it's in the afternoon.

tim and i went to a bar to see a soccer game recently and had a few cans of cheap bar. i also worked on a crossword.

It's on the main street of our tiny town. I can drive by this at any given time after 5pm and someone is surely laid out on the sidewalk all messed up.
