There was some other Rareware game where a puzzle or task required you to spin the control stick around at an insane rate of speed. The only way I could figure out how to do it was with the palm of my hand. I beat the stupid thing but literally tore a hole through the dermis of my hand doing it, had to wear a bandage around it for a week
Great example. Most of the Rare collect-a-thons had furiously annoying parts but DK64 takes the cake

And I think I got to 30 exactly but can't really remember - definitely had the attack scarf at one point. 100 is simply unfathomable. How many hours of practice did that take??

oh yeah DKR... there were some seriously challenging races in that game. I think I had to keep coming back to it over the course of like two years before I beat the final final boss in the space world.

I really loved Rare games, and I loved that they were packed with enough detail and tasks to really keep you busy for a long, long time. DK64 was pretty over the top though. I NEVER found all of the regular bananas, which opens an alternate end scene. Jet Force Gemini also drove me out of my skull, running around staggeringly huge, labyrinthine worlds looking for treasure chests and furry bears.

oooooooooh i used to get so pissed when counter-strike would lag, especially when it resulted it in my death or just went on too long. i would scream and fume a lot at my computer when it would happen - replete with slamming the mouse, going bug-eyed at the screen, and sometimes grunting.

i told that poor computi to go fuck itself a lot. :[

I forget what the reward was for getting all 201 golden bananas, but it's definitely one of the most daunting tasks in any game. The reward is not worth it, but that's really not the point. The only thing that comes close is perhaps collecting all of the pokemon, and of course that only gets more daunting with each generation

I got a game boy for christmas in the early 90s and went away camping with my folks that same week, so it was my only source of sanity. Except I got into a rage playing Burai Fighter and so smashed the screen against my head. Cracked it, right down the centre - purplish liquid coming through the cracks if I recall right. One half of the screen was still operable but the other was dead. I was so petrified I'd get in trouble for breaking something so new so needlessly that I spent the rest of the trip playing tetris on a half screen so that nothing would seem wrong.

I had a gamegear dude and I always lost in sonic pinball, super fucking annoying. so annoying that the gamegear got sick of it and committed suicide by way of burning a battery and causing melting battery acid to come spewing forth
