i think the phrase "slut shaming" is really stupid for many reasons. i guess it originated from the concept of "victim blaming" (ie asking what the victim was wearing in the case of rape) but just criticizing the way someone dresses or speaks or acts is a different thing

and like what is the implication there "stop shaming me for being a slut". how sad

Maybe for some, it's more about the depravity of her performance. Personally, I don't see what was empowering about it, and most of the judgement has fallen on her, and not on Alan Thicke for his participation in it.

It's not really what she was wearing or what she was doing, it was the imagery a long side of it that bothered me. It's not like we haven't seen this before from other performers. But there is a difference in what is art/performance, and what is just running out stage and shaking your ass and displaying very little talent.

No one was up in arms over Lady Gaga's thong, maybe because people tend to view her as more of an artist.

I think it comes from a point of treating unfairly a liberated woman who is sure of her own sexuality and who wants to go and take charge of her sexual life.

However promiscuity for its own sake can be dangerous and that alone I DON'T KNOW BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT I'M WRONG. Either I'm telling women they can't be sexual or I'm forcing women to be sexual objects. lose/lose

congrats on being a dupe for defending people who would rather distract themselves with meaningless drivel in the guise of real world problems than face up to actual problems on planet earth. I actually find it pretty interesting to see what kind of news/topics people like to discuss - and where.
For example at my job the recent topics were Egypt and Syria.
I go for a coffee and a bunch of guys on the next table talk about signing a petition against Batfleck.
And then there's Miley.

Anybody actually talked about her performance - at home/work or with friends? I got the impression it's rather one of these online topics, a nice distraction, and a day later nobody gives a shit.
