Mostly it's just a mass outlet of misdirected self-hatred by a society whose collective subconscious is screaming at it because it has allowed itself to be pacified into watching shit like the VMAs and thinking it's entertaining in the first place.

So are we upset by the slut shaming, wrt to Miley's performance? I realize that Pharrell and robin thicke have their own rapist agenda and that causes a lot of outrage. I haven't seen the performance but are we offended by the slut shaming or her presenting herself as an object, a slightly unwilling participant in rape culture. there is definitely real outrage. my facebook is currently blowing up with people posting opinion pieces on how the miley cyrus performance was deeply racist as it turned black women into "literal objects" (whatever that means), appropriated and degraded black culture, and is little more than minstrelry. I responded to one such post with something like are you serious, every moment you spend on this you are buying directly into the purpose of the performance which was to generate buzz, and I was told as a white male I just can't understand.

I said but Syria and this chick then begins defending the argument as being equally important to our society
