10 years from now when you have kids and are still trying to get out from under all that compounded interest from student loans you are going to look at your bills and realize how much money you left on the table and how much it ended up costing you. Turning your back on $20,000 is really turning your back on that much less interest over the next god knows how many years.

yeah it really has nothing to do with being greedy or "wanting money" or whatever

in a capitalist society such as this one, you can say you don't want money or hold yourself above such base things but at the end of the day its an inescapable necessity.

i really think this is a secondary concern anyway, a justification that arose out of the need to avoid confrontation or further inconvenience. I really think all of this resistance is borne out of a desire to take the path of least resistance and not any sense of morality or altruism.

I can definitely see something like this happening to my former roommate and he would probably do the same thing peabody is doing. And that would be because my ex-roommate is pathologically avoidant of confrontation

I just read this thread. Come on Peabody, don't be that guy.

While I can understand wanting it to be "over", you need to at least talk with a legal professional referred to you by someone you trust. They may say forget about it, but I highly doubt it.
