Sort of. If it's new friends, I'm incredibly uncomfortable... If it's a friend that's like family, doesn't bother me.

Nah. There's stillness in silence that is hard to embrace, but now I usually do and I don't feel uncomfortable at all.

Not that I never get bothered by it... if someone is flat ignoring me because they are angry, that's different. But natural periods of silence don't bother me. If there's nothing to say, I'd rather say nothing and just enjoy company or being alone.

If I have a mummy friend over for a cup of tea and there is a silence, that is uncomfortable. And if I'm catching up with a friend over coffee or something, and there's a silence, that's uncomfortable.

But around my family I don't care. And if it's a group of friends somewhere I don't care. It's really only if it's one on one and the purpose of the meeting up is to chat. The silence signals that the chat has come to a standstill and there is nothing to say to each other, and yeah that is uncomfortable.

I have friends who don't feel that way about the silences though, come to think of it. I tend to bring up topics like the weather and road safety in those times and those conversations just get worse and worse.

Only when my tinnitus is acting up, but I generally enjoy silent moments or longer periods of calmness, especially when I'm lying in the dark.
