while the concept seems to make sense at first glance, i am skeptical of most things dietary specialists claim because there's a contrary position to pretty much any detail

Thumbs up

Paleo dishes are so fucking delicious. Spaghetti made with spaghetti squash and mashed cauliflower are a couple of my favorite dishes.

It's not a bad idea, but fuck all that god damn work. I eat grassfed beef and dairy while taking vitamin supplements with the occasional kale spinach and celery intake. It just costs more and I don't have to be some kind of certified fucking nutritionist to be healthier

there's at least some anecdotal evidence that suggests that diets rich in carbs are not bad at all for younger people (assuming that they don't over eat). And that in middle age the body responds better (healthily) to a low/lower carb diet more like a paleo diet or even the south beach diet. One that focuses on small amounts of meat, lots of greens and vegetables and fresh fruit.

I just started reading "The Vegetarian Myth" which deals partly with this.

Also, there was an interesting interview recently with Michael Rose (who studies aging and diet) over at the Skeptically Speaking podcast: http://skepticallyspeaking.ca/episod...ion-of-aging-2

Rose has a blog that collects info on the subject here http://55theses.org/

I'm with scotty on this one. if you don't want to be fat, don't eat as much. if you don't want to be unhealthy, don't eat processed crap as your main food intake. it's not rocket science.

i think what the paleo and other diets do for people is give them the satisfaction they're looking for from food, without having them overeat. so yeah for some people it works. for others, it doesn't. quelle fucking surprise

there is a lot of actual science that suggests something similar to the paleo diet is healthy. But it's not one size fits all. Dairy, for instance, can be healthy, but probably not if your ancestors were Native American, African American or Asian, since most people from the Americas, parts of Africa and Asia did not evolve with the ability to digest lactose.

Eating high fat meats, especially organs like kidneys, liver, etc. can be perfectly healthy. People evolved eating those parts of animals. The body requires the fats found in those tissues. But if you eat too much of it you're not going to be healthy.

The one thing that's completely horrible is refined sugars (fructose) and refined, bleached grains. It fucks with your system in a bad way. those things are a recent product of agriculture and industry. While the body likes and craves sugar the evolutionary reason for that is to drive people to seek out and gather vegetables and fruits (which are relatively high in sugars).

The best thing you can do for your diet is to eat smaller portions but more often. Kicks up your metabolism and gives you more energy. It's worked well for me.

see, i think even this is questionable. there are hundreds of "scientific" opinions on all this. it's like studies that show that things cause cancer. what doesn't?
