Default I got tested for learning disabilities today.

I thought I might have ADD because I can't study worth shit, and I thought that I might be ale to score some adderall or something through legitimate means. But that's all fine.

I have the same IQ that I had as a six year old (which is kind of remarkable, I guess), and I don't have ADD. It turns out that I process information at a rate that is typical for an 8th grader, regardless of what the subject matter is. Whether it's simple math computations, or reading, I process that shit the same speed as your average 8th grader. Kind of a crazy thing to learn about yourself at 28 years of age.

Any of y'all got learning disabilities?

Effectively, yes. But functionally it means if I'm reading something or performing a task, cognition just like, stops in the middle of it, and I might have to read the same sentence multiple times in order to comprehend it. I basically struggle in any class that requires me to read.

i was diagnosed with adult A.D.D. and struggled with any math post pre algebra (with the exception of geometry). i studied night and day with tutors and everything just to get a C - in entry level college algebra. it was pretty traumatizing... but fast forward some years later i'm working in the engineering department

i think being conscious of your academic aptitude holds you back alot. when that's out of the way it frees you up to learn alot easier... but i've never had an aptitude test as an adult

hey same for me. i thought that was normal, but now you're telling me it's connected to some sort of cognitive disorder??

id love to know how you went about getting tested. I've often thought I had add (and family constantly rag on me about being too add to get anything done) but I don't really know how to go about getting tested.

I was inspired to look for answers because I started just doing fucking terribly on exams where I knew all the material. In particular I bombed a physics exam that was all about circuits, which is arguably the easiest part of physics.

I went to the Office for Students with Disabilities at my school to see what sort of accommodations could be made should I have a disorder and they gave me a list of people who provide the test.

I called about 6 different school psychologists and I got wildly disparate prices on the testing, all the way from 100 bucks to 2000 bucks. The test itself is actually just am IQ test. They test for your abilities in certain areas, they determine that you have an LD if your scores on any part of the test differs significantly from the other sections. It was kind of neat in a way. I did fucking wonderfully on every part of the test until I got to the part that tests for processing speed and it was like I hit a brick wall.

Don't you work as a teacher, obscured? If so just ask the school psychologist and they can point you in the right direction.

Perhaps the task being performed are boring to you and thus you are not as engaged in the process.

Yes, I'm an elem. teacher. We don't have a school psychologist (whole other convo) but we do have a counselor that unfortunately rarely gets to counsel because she's also our testing coordinator. I'll talk to her about it when we come back from the break.

Thanks for the info, hope all is going better now that you know what the problem is. I had a student two years ago that had a processing issue and was super smart at everything, but would BOMB timed tests.
