![]() After taking a year off, Dominik Hasek has stated this week that he wants to return to the Detroit Red Wings. However, there are obvious problems. First and foremost, there's the Cujo problem. Curtis Joseph still has 2 years left in his contract, and his contract has a no-trade clause: he can't be traded without his consent. But if the Wings sign Hasek, he'd be expected to waive that clause, and he probably would if it meant being traded to a contender. However, other teams know that, if the Wings sign Hasek, they HAVE to dump Cujo, so his trade value is diminished. The only deal I've heard proposed is the Rangers willing to trade Eric Lindros for Cujo...which isn't a good deal as far as I'm concerned (Eric's an accident waiting to happen: one more concussion and Lindros is probably done). Problem #2: The Red Wings have to make their decision quickly. Hasek is still under contract to the Wings until July 1, under the terms of his old contract, which was a two-year deal with an option for a third. The last day they can enact this option is June 30th. After that day, Hasek is an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team. I'm guessing that the Colorado Avalance will pursue him like a cure for cancer if they are able to, which would make me an unhappy camper, to say the least. In the meantime, the Wings have yet to come to terms with Sergei Fedorov (is he worth the $12 million a year he wants?), Steve Yzerman (is his old ass worth $7-$8 million for one season?) and Darren McCarty (he's not a great player, but his toughness is appreciated, for sure). After July 1st, the Wings are expected to aggressively pursue Derian Hatcher, which I think is great. I think signing Hasek again would make Detroit an even more appealing place to play. I mean, shit, why do you think Robitaille and Hull signed with Detroit back in 2001?

They need to do something.. With Cujo between the pipes the wings will never win another cup. Cujo is notorious for chokin in the playoffs.

One of his biggest knocks is that he doesn't play well on a team that's expected to win. Funny...he goes from almost single-handedly carrying the Maple Leafs to the Finals in 2001-2002 to being unable to steal a game when his team needed him the most this past playoffs against Anaheim. I don't entirely blame Cujo for the Wings' ouster, but he needed to steal a game or two. It was a battle of goaltending that round, and Cujo got outplayed by the Jiggernaut. |

I dont entirely blame him either...its just being from St. Louis I've seen him choke alot. They will probably do better than the blues this season.. heads are supposed to roll here.. but we will see.. rumor has it that Dimitri is gonna be shopped around, which to me seems like one of the dumbest things the Blues could do...

I've got a gut feeling that the Dominator is gonna sign with the Wild.

How about the Ducks nixing a trade of a 9th round pick for Jagr? HAHAAHAHA I LOVE IT!
Also, the Pens finally put together a financing plan for a new arena, and have a franchise goalie in place in Fleury. It's a great week for Pittsburgh. |

rangers won't trade for cujo. regardless of richter's status (and as far as i'm concerned he is done for good, sadly), everybody in new york was more than pleased by dunham and blackburn's performance. so as for hasek's comeback, i have to say that i think it won't happen. i can't see cujo going anywhere with the upcoming lockout.

Its gonna be tough for teams to ship off players with high salaries this season cause no one wants to take on that extra money with the lockout coming up. Thats basically why there were no big trades over the draft weekend. Alot of high priced players are getting shopped around but there are no takers.
