standard seasonal topic: what gifts are you giving?

We bought a new iMac for Christmas. I got the wife some little stuff like the coffee beans she likes most, nail polish, a scarf, etc. I want nothing except maybe new undershirts.

We adopt every year a few families and fulfill their wishes and also volunteer at the food bank a few times in December.

For my nephew I bought him a new baseball bat, my niece is getting some interactive ideas and I have no idea what Kathryn got her family. My family (parents and brother and sister) aren't exchanging gifts so we can help those who are in actual need.

This is really cool. My parents did this when I was a kid sometimes. Now I just volunteer about once a week at a food bank and once a month I donate extra toiletries I get really cheap with coupons (like, pay tax on them pretty much). Right now I have some ProGlide Razors and refills and a bunch of disposables to give. I usually give that stuff to Women in Distress. I think I'm going to inquire about volunteering there, though I know they have strict training and stuff, background checks etc but I think it'd be a good organization for me because of my history.

This is our first year not doing gifts and I love it. None of us need others to buy them shit. We're just grunts on Saturday mornings at the food bank loading trucks as they take them to drop off points.

We did a no gifts Christmas last year with the kids and it was a disaster so we're avoiding that for now.

My parents just give us money. My mother told me to spend it on annual zoo passes and museum memberships this year so that's nice. Nice to have somewhere to take the kids.
