Question So how are you DC phorians doing?

I think i'd be a bit nervous. I think if I had kids i'd be VERY nervous, but as an adult i'd still have it on my mind a lot, now that they hit the one on the corner not at school.

Would YOU take you kids out of school? (any of you)

I think the more times it happens, the more nervous everyone gets. My roommate is nervous about walking to the metro because she is so out in the open. I am nervous about stopping to get gas. It is just freaky.

Apparently my younger brother is either:

(a) a badass

OR

(b) a dumbass

Because he lives in Arlington, works in DC, rides the Metro daily, and is not scared at all.

He seems more pissed off than anything. Especially now that the sniper(s) have struck his girlfriend's hometown of Falls Church.

He thinks that riding the Metro at night is scarier than the threat of being shot by the sniper and that the possibility of being shot in DC by someone other than the sniper is infinetely more likely than being shot by the sniper himself.

Riding the metro at night is not at all scary in DC (hell, the thing stops running at midnight). But yeah, you are more likely to be shot by someone other than the sniper.

Yay for the right to own a high-powered long-range weapon for, uh, defensive purposes

That's the first thing that came to my mind when I first heard about this story. I don't know why the issue of gun control hasn't been brought up by the media. Did you know that because of NRA lobbying there is a law that prohibits bullets which have unique markings (like thumbprints) to be recorded so that they can be traced to the manufacturer that made the gun, the dealer who sold it and the person who bought it?

As for the original topic, I think it's lame how everyone is all jumpy about this. I drive through parts of Los Angeles everyday where I have a better chance of being shot than by a sniper in those upscale D.C. area suburban neighborhoods. Shutup.

Is there really a law to prohibit it? I heard there was a law proposed that every gun sold should provide a bullet casing as a thumbprint, but that it's being held in limbo at the moment. I'd like to hear a convincing argument against it - there are people claiming it would infringe on their right to bear arms (does a license plate or a chassis number infringe on your right to drive a car?). The only reasonable point I've heard is that the process would push the price of guns up by $20 or so, and frankly that's peanuts. It's not like guns are inexpensive anyway, and it would definitely be worth it.
