Default In this thread Romney loses to Obama

Campaign over...

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/...onvention.html

Quote:
The past 24 hours have delivered a pair of national polls with two clearly distinct snapshots of the state of the presidential race.

First came the CNN/ORC International survey that showed President Obama leading Mitt Romney, 52 percent to 46 percent, among likely voters, giving the Democratic incumbent a four-point bounce from a post-Tampa/pre-Charlotte convention poll that had the candidates tied at 48 percent.

The latest Washington Post/ABC News survey, however, showed the race remained virtually unchanged from before the conventions, with the president edging his GOP rival by a single point, 49 percent to 48 percent, which is within the poll's sampling error of plus-or-minus 4 percent. (Among all registered voters, the president topped Romney, 50 percent to 44 percent

Seriously, though....

Romney could lead by huge margins in every solid red state in the country, and even in total nationally, going into November. But without solid leads in the handful of swing states, Like Ohio, Florida, etc... he has little chance of winning.

electoral college

i really didn't think we would see a more poorly managed campaign than mccain's maybe ever. and he was even starting with a pretty steep uphill battle.

this was romney's to lose and he is shitting it all away in rather stunning fashion. there's still plenty of time, but the ineptitude at this point is undeniable. and a lot will have to change, i think.

a great debate for him would go a long way, but i don't think i see that happening either.

He's shown in the past that he can be a good candidate, but I think he's seriously hamstrung by his own party.

He has on the one hand religious conservatives who want him to get in front of the cameras every day and promise to take away birth control. Then he has an angry America First contingent that wants all brown skin off the continent. Then he has people like Adelson and the Kochs who are pushing for abolition of programs the middle class relies on. i haven't even mentioned the "let's start a war with iran" Neocons... who are still there ready to cause trouble.

The agendas of those factions within the republican party scare the shit out of a lot of "independents" and swing voters.

On top of that fiscally conservative republicans seem to have no real power any longer in their own party. There used to be a block of rational, serious leaders in the GOP who kept it grounded... People like Mitt's father.

today i was volunteering at a food pantry and overheard a lone sane man arguing with a group of clients that romney being president would hurt people like them who needed assistance

i just dont understand how people vote against their own interests so readily

Daily Kos/SEIU poll of "likely" voters has Obama up by 6... (50 - 44) with 6% undecided...

http://elections.dailykos.com/weeklypolling/2012/8/23

yes, it's a Progressive blog, but they've done a good job over the past 5 yrs of trying to get accurate polling for national elections.

Of interest is that obama is getting nearly 50% or more than 50% among all income groups... and 19% of African Americans are choosing Romney..

it's a comically mismanaged campaign but alot if not most of the misfortune reflects the quality of the candidate. the most important election of a lifetime and your answer to the opponent is... mormon mr.rogers meets thurston howell III? i dont see how they can pimp this guy with a straight face

Pretty sure Trump even said (or tweeted) months ago that Mitt needs a better team around him, especially if he wants to compete with Barack.

If Obama is reelected he will become the progressive Ronald Reagan. Not just in that he'll be held up as an example of a "winner" for the next generation or more of democrats. But also in that he makes a compelling and effective counter argument to the conservative call for "smaller government".

it's something that Bill Clinton wasn't really able to do.

It would be interesting to know just WTF Romney's advisors tell him to say everyday. He goes on one news channel and says "all of Obamacare needs to be repealed". And then goes on another network and lists all the good pieces of Obamacare that he'd keep.

Nah, the progressive Ronald already exists, and he already did his two terms and he may have secured a victory for Barack after his speech at the DNC.

scotty what are you talking about

Clinton is the liberal Reagan except that instead of fucking us over with ideological bullshit, he was pretty moderate and sailed us mostly through smooth waters

omg

i don't dislike all muslims. took islamic humanities in college and very much enjoyed the course. i think obama's refusal to meet with netanyahu is another signal of something bad to come.

i just said
that's fine but that's not what that picture is saying. that picture is saying obama supports terrorism and is a traitor. and if you dont believe that then i dont understand why you'd repost it. there are plenty of things to be critical about, however when you share stuff like that it is an insult to muslims (muslim-americans or other nationalities) because it is calling them all terrorists and it is so just beyond the pale of what should be off limits for campaigning because no matter what you believe about obama or romney, no one should be called a traitor because that's fucking ridiculous. and that quote is ridiculously out of context but the whole thing is just fucked up so i dont know where to start

i'm not even really political but that is just so fucked up i mean what the hell

Do you think Obama will end up being more effective than Clinton if reelected?

to play devil's advocate a president's schedule is very un-malleable and everything has to be planned months in advance (especially in an election year i'd guess). and isreal and US are in constant contact so its questionable how much more would really get accomplished with the two physically in a room together

imo they should put handsome joe in a room with netanyahu with a pack of keystone tallboys
