i know that's an ironic post but people actually think that

there are plenty of people who hate reagan's guts, like, say ~90% of black america

thing with reagan's 'legacy' that irks me is he wasnt even that immensely popular going out of office and people were mostly 'meh' about him up until around his death where they pretty much whitewashed his entire presidency. (Iran contra? Whazzat? He raised taxes? Huh?) I dont mean to shit on him but he's probably the first modern prez with an artificial legacy

well i wouldn't say that, LBJ has a really negative legacy outside of texas

or how about JFK? what the fuck did he ever actually do? He started stuff that LBJ finished, or was stuck with.

Its true people gloss over jfk's faults but i think his legacy is more 'what could have been? Rather than THIS MAN WAS A GOD.. or at least its not to the absurd extent like with reagan. But its all argumentative

i still think it's really strange that LBJ is generally held pretty highly even by conservatards in this state but ouside it's just OMGZ VIETNAMS

i had an aunt in illinois that just thought it was "hilarious" that i went to LBJ high school.

Kind of a dick thing to say but with alot of vietnam vets dying off and vietnam going into the periphery altogether what with iraq/afghanistan i think LBJ's domestic accomplishments are slowly becoming more recognized. Thats the thing with 'legacies' they can take decades and decades to shape

Just like how bush will be seen as a reformer of the middle east in 100 years (lol)

There is a strong argument that JFK and then subsequently LBJ's accomplishments in domestic policy were simply the result of being president at the right time... Kennedy resisted pressure to step up for civil rights groups at first. But even so, Kennedy almost started a nuclear war, and it's kind of impossible to separate Vietnam from Johnson's legacy. If Obama's most evil characteristic is the drone program which has killed probably a few hundred innocent people, LBJ is basically Satan himself

i think kennedy was about as much responsible for vietnam as johnson was. the way he saw it was 'what could go wrong lol'

i have alot of theories about what could've happened with a full two terms of kennedy or a subsequent term with goldwater (as unlikely as that would be) but i don't want to get lost in that hypothetical rabbit hole

I'm not talking about theoretic apportioning of blame for starting the war, I mean the actual number of innocent lives extinguished as a direct result of Johnson's orders.

obama assassinates american citizens

that is a horrifying precedent but you seem to just be completely blase about it

also i'd like to point out that obama hasn't achieved any kind of domestic triumphs on the level of civil rights legislation, or social security, or medicaid

if his health care plan works then maybe i'll give him some cred

p.s. shut up redbreegull you fuck

yeah I know you are really bitter that LBJ was actually responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people when you want to believe he was some sort of golden civic figure.
