what this has to do with the thread?: i'm going because of my mental health and it keeps decreasing and sadness has a lot to do with mental health.

well i guess kid's wards are different but most mental institutions are little more than adult day care, so make sure you pick one that actually has good therapy and will help you.

i hope it works out for you man. i went voluntarily into one when i was 23 for three weeks and then several times after that, but they were ptsd-specific except the one time i got sectioned

I went to a doctor a couple of months ago because I'd been off anti-depresants for 4 months and I wasnt sure I wanted back on them or not but I was feeling kind of shitty, and he basically accused me of talking really slowly, that I didnt tell him anything when he asked questions and he wasnt sure what I wanted. I left feeling worse than when I went in.

that sucks man

i'm lucky to have a great mental health team. been seeing my psychiatrist for about four years now. therapist for almost a year and a half and i seriously couldn't possibly have a better match for a therapist. my previous one sucked and i did realize it but was too passive to end it. one day i realized she had this script of things she always asked me and none of it was meaningful or helpful and i just told her i needed to find someone who took my new insurance and that was it

i was improving before i left that old therapist but since then it's been crazy how much i've improved

plus today i found out i have hypothyroidism so once i start taking synthroid or whatever i'll probably feel less depressed and lose some more weight

i realize my "not depressed" is someone else's "somewhat depressed with short episodes of moderate-severe", but the difference is so astounding that i just feel grateful. the past few days i've slept a lot so i've been avoiding feeling depressed but it's ok. i'll feel better soon. and i'm going to watch charlotte's web

where am i saying i don't have any control over it

obviously i do, i choose to take medication that helps me, and choose to do therapy which helps me, and choose not to do self destructive things that i used to do like taking drugs and hurting myself

I'm feeling much better on escitalopram and lamotrigine than I was unmedicated. First few days I had insomnia and felt stoned, had no appetite for a couple of weeks. I did a lot of weird stuff like stopping at green lights, parking in exit ways, leaving my wallet or shopping behind in stores, filling out forms wrong...but it has been a month now and it has all settled down thankfully.

I get really sleepy in the evenings which is terrific because it means I go to bed early and can get up early and go to the gym to work out. And I've weaned myself off my exercise and calorie restriction obsession so that's good too. Feeling much much better. Hope it's the same for you. I've tried paxil and prozac and they both caused weight gain and didn't help a whole lot but the escitalopram is much better.
