The point the author is trying to make is how idiotic and how woefully oversimplified these stupid political image macros are and how people buy into the garbage hook line and sinker because it just validates their rudimentary and/or skewed political beliefs while distracting people from real issues about the candidates themselves or political stances. You yourself in the past have said these political image macros are stupid, and the author agrees with you on this point. Your problem with the article seems to be, in part, that even just talking about them, even if it's in a critical light, is counter-productive and only serves to validate their existence, and they should be ignored, not discussed.

Regardless, the author raises some valid points, chief among them the whole "voting only to vote against someone" and the "red-team-versus-blue-team" mentality.

Yes, I'm not happy with the Republican party and its constituents in its present form, but I've yet to see an alternative to them that isn't a group of special-interest-bankrolled big-business whores who make empty promises, or aren't people who are even more batshit crazy than the Republicans.
