How would you react?
I get home from work at 12:43 am. I start watching a movie, smoking something, drinking something - kicking back. An hour and ten minutes later I step outside for a cigarette. Ah, freshly damaged capillaries. Get back to my mild end of week entertainment and ten minutes later "GLASS SMASHING" comes from outside. Now, I recognize the sound of a vehicular window being smashed from training as top flight security of the world, Craig. Of the world, Craig.
So I immediately popped outside when I heard a second loud smashing sound - they had thrown a rock (the same as before) at my neighbor's car's front windshield. I channeled deep within to my most profound wisdom and yelled "What the fuck?! You fucking piece of shit!" And looked at the person doing it. It was a teenaged female running away. I could've caught up and snagged her as she was running to her getaway rig but decided against it. I called the police instead with no real result. Up until the point when I called the police I didn't know the extent of the damage or that it was to my ride.  Would you have reacted differently? |

Your also a better man for not pressing the issue by running after her and grabbing her by the arm.
Don't think you were targeted or did anything wrong, it was just teenagers pulling a prank, nothing your insurance won't fix, so let by gones be by gones. Take a deep breath, and let the universe take care of the problem. You did the right thing, this can of pats blue ribbon is for you, just need your address so I can mail it to you and finish off the other five windows. |

yelling is what I would have done too. i would have called the cops the same as you.
I know though that they'll do absolutely nothing. but filing a formal complaint/report at least puts it on their books. If it becomes or is part of a rash of vandalism in your neighborhood it might help eventually get them to better patrol your area. I've called the police several times due to vandalism to my cars. One time it was due to $3k in damage to my Subaru. Each time they did nothing about it, other than to suggest I call my insurance company. |
