I walked through the door and he was standing at the far end of the room. His back was to me. "What are you doing?" i asked. He froze.. not moving. He hadn't expected me.

"What are you DOING?" I repeated, raising my voice. I was worried. He'd been acting strange all day. Not like usual, all stoned and glassy eyed, but more anxious. Almost as if he was hiding something.

"What are you doing?"

He started to turn... slowly. It seemed to take forever. I felt like I was watching some kind of frame by frame super slow motion video.. like I wasn't there and it was a scene in somebody else's bad day that I was witnessing. But it wasn't, and I was suddenly overcome with a horrible sense of dread. As he turned toward me he kept his gaze toward the floor, as if he was he knew that eye contact would bring it all to an end.

And then, as he slowly turned counter clockwise toward me, there in his left hand I could see it
