"Side A Mid 7 > Mid 2" What is that about? Looks like mastering levels for a transfer. But why the hell write that on the sleeve?

They are wrapped in wide strips of clear packaging tape (album covers). The eps are labeled CR01 through CR03 and the lp is labeled CR04 and each record is hand numbered. I hestitate to give out that particular number in fear of offending someone if it gets back to them that this is on ebay. Of course the buyer will know everything. I hope that help. Thanks for your interest.

The seller told me she got the item from someone (referred to as a "he" later, got the distinct impression it was a boyfriend/husband type) who won it in a silent auction in Chicago in "late 2001" benefitting ALS [Lou Gherig's disease]. She said she did not know the exact amount bid but "could not have been over a few hundred." Said she could not vouch for chain of title from there on back, but did not think auction recieved item from Billy directly. Claims item has not been played while in her possession.

A search revealed a prominent ALS charity in Chicago (I can find the name if anyone cares) recieved a large bounty of donations from Q101 in Jan/Feb. 2002 (close enough to be confused with late 2001). An article lists some items as a pair of pants signed by Blink 182, but makes no mention of a Machina 2 copy. After several calls and secretaries, I got ahold of Tim Dukes the programming director at Q101 who is familiar with the Machina 2 story and says he does not believe Q101 to still have their copy, nor does he think they've had it "for 3 or 4 years", but cannot vouch for who exactly was given it.

Seller claims it to be number 19 and answered rudimentary questions about where it was marked and pressed. I cannot speak for Dave, but he did say in PMs he was "inclined to believe it to be real" but we did have more questions to ask. I got the seller's answering machine this morning, said I had spoken with another owner of M2 and had a few questions that would conclusively determine authenticity and to please call me back collect. I then recieved the phone call a few minutes ago saying the response was more then anticipated and she was not hoping to make this much money and she wanted to contact serious bidders so they could bid before she pulled it. Hopefully this helps if anyone wants to bid.

i spent over an hour yesterday reading/skimming the old thread. i really should've gone to bed instead.

this set is very likely to be the real thing. but why the hell is she doing such a bad job providing the necessary details so that people will know it's not a fake for sure? i think she's missing out on some proper bids because of this. ok, $5,600 isn't bad, and it can go up a lot more, but still. don't be so thick. even though i'm not going to bid on this, i'm fairly interested. i'd really like to know if this is real, and if her story is true.

if c_wilson bids another $15k, he'll walk away with machina II. he'll need the help of another fan to pay for half of it though. but then they can share.

good detective work caic. more reason to think it's going to go for about $20,000, at least $15,000... crazy.

bc can issue 10 new machina iis and sell them on ebay if he is short on funds for sprc...

i think he means those bootleg copies... and if they are sourced from the q101 rips of their vinyl.

or he's clueless to the fact that the digital versions come from the vinyl promo's to begin with.

nope, that's why the quality isn't that great and it'll be awesome to have the reissues of it. I think it'll sell really well compared to most of the other reissues.

Although we already have a few songs from MII from J.0. lucky 13, real love, slow dawn sourced from the master tapes.

MII try try try is on the untitled single.

i don't know if anyone noticed but cash car star, in my body & lucky 13 can be played from http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/albums/machinaii/

i was hoping they were sourced from the master tapes, but they sound like the q101 versions to me...

Though the mastering is really crushed and clipped. I prefer the vinyl source.

or there indeed was a q101 auction, and her boyfriend not only bought machina II, but also this APC award, and gave both to her.
is there a way to find out if the seller is the same person that is mentioned on the APC award (mary shuminas - q101)?

you're contradicting yourself, CAIC. First you say "why does she make an effort to convince others that it is not fake", now you say it'S very likely to be the real thing. yet billy comments about the missing provenance, and the pictures do tell that there is no hand-numbering on the lps and thinks it's a fake. So this is all quite unclear to me.

nice research of you, though. by the way, a little researching on the bidders side might reveal this thread to them. so with luck it can go pretty high still. it's already over 8k 1 day before the end, so...

but that's the thing: we don't know what the real thing looks like, numbering-wise.
maybe she's not mentioning the number in an attempt to reduce the possible shitstorm?

anyway, i wouldn't pay for this if i wasn't 100% certain that is was real. (and i wouldn't pay +$8000 either way. i'd rather spend that amount money on other things.)
and i'm not 100% convinced it's real. or that her (old) story is true.
but if i had to guess, i'd say it's real. i'd be surprised if this was a fake.

I have always wondered what the thought process was on the initial auction being cancelled after bids reached $10,000 (and now on this one, being cancelled when the bids got upwards of $8,000). Is it because they realized they owned something that is way more valuable than they had originally thought, and decided to just hang onto it? Is it because they thought, based on the monetary bids it was already receiving, that they should keep it even longer and let it increase in value? Or are they just putting it up for auction to get an idea of its value? I don't get it.
