Default geeks: remote desktop connection

here is what i need to be able to do: i need to be able to play music on my desktop computer using my laptop. i have them networked togethor with a wireless router and that is working perfectly. i can establish a remote desktop connection choosing to leave the sound at the remote location which is what i want.. but when i attempt to play sound it doesn't work and says the sound card is in use or not installed. i don't anyone would have ever tried this, but if you have any suggestions it'd be appreciated. oh yeah, both computers are running xp pro.

just open the media player of your choice on the desktop, open up your network folder to the laptop, throw whatever you want to play from it into the player.

or do you mean having the laptop itself playing the media and have only the sound networked to the desktop? good luck w/ that one.

i don't even have a monitor hooked up to my desktop computer. i need to be able to control the desktop computer from my laptop and make it play music through my desktop sound card. i have gotten everything to work except it gives and error and won't play sound. i know it should work because the three options for sound thru remote desktop connection are: bring sound to this computer (laptop), do not play sound, and leave sound at remote location(desktop, which is what i want). basically i'm trying to use my laptop as a wireless remote to play all my music thru my stereo off my desktop computer. make any sense at all?
