"Rock & roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world," he says, blowing cigarette smoke out the window of his rented East Village loft a few days *before the band heads to L.A. "So they became OK with the idea that the biggest rock band in the world is always going to be shit – therefore you should never try to be the biggest rock band in the world. Fuck that! Does it really matter tho? I mean, sure Nickleback is shit but how does it affect your life? I can still go out and meet no people, and be bohemian, and have sexual experiences most people can only dream of. Nickleback isn't going to stop that. I mean, is this really bothering you? Try scoring some weed or ludes and relax. Being so tightly wound is going to hurt you if you're trying to be a legit pussycrook.

I would say this guy has a strong point in that the labels will suck the dick of a Nickelback precisely because their safe-rock and since that is what gets rewarded, it lowers the bar of the genre as a whole.

If dude wants to break that cycle, than now is the time to step up with an act that stands and says something of social relevance and breaks the chains that bind his band. But since Carney is bitching about nickelback instead of displacing them, he probably doesn't have it in him.

at the same time this is the guy in a band headlining major music festivals who doesn't want to put his album up on spotify because it might make four people not buy it
