Default Anyone else here have older siblings that got booted out of the house?

My older brother is getting kicked out for the 3rd time.

He is in his early 20s, he hasn't worked a day in his life, and he has no money.

He also has no job, sits on his ass all day and watches TV, and goes to friend's houses. He hasn't even been to college. He even begs me for gas money

I'm listening to my mom chew him out right now

OK, he got $200 for Christmas, and has already blown through it. he was supposed to go get his laptop (it was $300, he pawned it for $45), but didn't

He was actually supposed to be out 2 days ago, but came back

This is pissing me off

Yeah, shes pretty fed up with his bullshit

She's gonna be taking his key and garage door opener soon

Sad thing is, I'm younger than him, and I'm already working

And he expects me to give him gas money?

OH HELL NAW

i am the older sibling. moved out at 18 and never looked back. actually, thats kind of untrue. i was thisclose to moving back at 21-22ish. i wouldn't have been kicked out, i doubt i would've lasted long in hicktown again.

everybody i know that gets 'kicked out' usually comes back in a matter of days or weeks, or the parents end up forking over money for an apartment or something. not saying it doesn't happen. but its pretty rare when parents truly do bring down the hammer

I'm absolutely positive she's bringing down the hammer permanently this time.

When I say she's fed up, I mean she's come completely unglued.

Duke, I know you're frustrated but we all have our fucked up periods. Give your bro some love, he's still a person after all and one who is about to be homeless and turned away by his own family. Even though it's his fault, he's still a human being with feelings. Tell him you love him or something.

Does he not want to work or can he not find work or what? Maybe you and yer mom should try and help instead of giving him a hard time?

Duke have you considered moving out with him? You could be turd bandits together and give bjs to limp-dicked old men like in that one Decemberists song. It would bring you guys closer together, I bet. Worst case scenario: at least you're off Netphoria since you're homeless.

Seriously, it is his fault.
It feels like a whole lot of people don't understand that.
And here I am, the "good" child, turned perfectionist by the need to give my mother the feeling not to feel like she raised two screwups.

Give it time, you'll let her down eventually....my mom had a breakdown after all three of her kids ended up in jail.

It's more of my mom getting on his tail about him not working, I've chosen to back off.
He really doesn't want to work, he barely tries to fill out applications.
He's gotten the help he's needed

My mom nearly had a breakdown after my father died (her ex-husband)

She was trying her best to take care of us kids while keeping herself together.

And deal with her own grief

She's in the middle of divorcing my soon to be ex stepfather.

I hate him, he was a jerk to her

I agree with you that it is his fault, but that doesn't mean I can't feel bad for him.

As for you being the good child, you are describing a common family situation. It isn't fair to you at all - but you at least see what is happening as it is happening. In that sense, she obviously has not raised a screw-up.

sorry i'll stop lecturing but i was just trying to get at the fact you can have compassion for him while still holding him responsible for his actions or lack thereof

It's not that I don't have compassion for him, it's just that he's beyond his 3 strikes, ya know?

he's about to be homeless in the middle of winter and is likely addicted to drugs. it's not a happy place believe me. but i can understand you being angry and frustrated, and he has brought it on himself :/

Mhm.
I love my brother to death, but he's just messed up in a lot of ways.
I still love him, despite his screw ups
